    Walkoff thriller at Christian

Charlotte Christian 6; Country Day 5

    WP: Gaines
    LP: Whitman

After going down 1-0 in the 1st, the knights scored 3 in the bottom of the 1st to go up 3-1. but CD tied the game up in the 2nd off an 2rbi 3b, and eventually took the lead 4-3 off a Coker HR. after an rbi single by M. Fulginiti in the 4th and another rbi single by M. McVerry in the 5th the knights took a 5-4 lead. In the top of the 7th after getting 2 quick outs, the bucs hit a blooper that was misplayed and the runner wound up on second, the next batter hit a single to tie it up at 5. Bottom of the 7th,The first batter Tyler Kirkpatrick launched a first pitch fastball over the leftcenter field fence to win the game.
P.S. this is the best country day team ive seen in awhile, they have some very talented players good pitching, watch out for them

    CC:
    Tyler Kirkpatrick 1-3 HR
    Max Fulginiti 2-3 2rbis
    Mason McVerry 1-3 rbi
    Kurt Fulginiti 1-2 2B
    Matt Gantner 1-3 2B

    CD:
    Jason Coker 2-4 HR
    9 hole hitter??? 2-3 3B

    Christian: 17-10

    Cap 6 standings

    Millbrook 5
    Broughton 0

    Wakefield 13
    Sanderson 0

Millbrook, Broughton and Wakefield all 4-1 through the first round for a three way tie for first. Only two teams going to the playoffs. Should be interesting!

Just when you thought that things couldn't get any tighter in the NPC.......

Blake Ketner pitched a complete game 2-hit gem and Jerrod Faggart hit 2 rainbow HRs. The first home run, a 2-run shot "rainbowed" over the centerfield fence just as an actual rainbow appeared overhead (I hope the local paper got a picture of "Je" rounding the bags with the rainbow in the background) :fan_wave2

    Jerrod Faggart:2-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI
    Kyle Seager: 2-4, RBI
    Brett Honeycutt:, 1-4, RBI
    Chase Hodge: 2-3

    Ketner (W) (2-hitter)
    Aycoth (L)

It would be my guess that we may have 4-way tie atop the NPC except that East Rowan was losing to North Iredell 6-2 in the bottom of the 6th.....

NEXT UP: The (16-5) Trojans travel to Statesville Thursday night....

Good Old Fashioned Pitchers Duel between two solid pitchers: Mitch Besselievre (PHS) and Cody Drake (MP). Cory Dunning launched the first pitch of the game over the left-centerfield fence to put PHS on top.. The 1-0 lead held until the top of the fifth. PHS' Mitch Besselievre doubled to lead off the fifth and scored on a single to right by Austin Stephenson. Jordan Cudney relieved in the fifth for MP with one out and the bases loaded. Jordan put out the fire without any further damage and pitched brilliantly the rest of the game. MP made it interesting in the bottom of the seventh, getting runners on second and third with one out, but Mitch Besslievre got the last two outs on a strike out and a line out to first to end the game. A real thriller. Both teams played strong defense.

Mitch (PHS) got the CG Shutout Win and is now 5-2 on the year. PHS remains atop the SW4A with a 10-1 Record, 17-3 Overall. Cody Drake (MP) took the Loss.

    Leading hitters:
PHS: Austin Stephenson 2-3, RBI; Cory Dunning 1-3, HR; Mitch Besselievre 1-3, 1-Run Scored.
    MP: Scott Matthews 2-4.

    World War III:

    Independence 2, North Meck 1 (8 Innings).

Classic pitchers duel. Robby Bray started for Independence, Tom Porter for North Meck. North jumped on top in the 1st, plating Cavasinni. It was tied in the 5th when Indy pushed over an un-earned run. Knotted at 1-1 after 7.

In the 8th, with Rosenbaum in to pitch for North and a runner at 3rd with 2 outs, Coach Coltrane won the game by calling a steal of home while the pitcher was in the wind-up. Gutsy call. North got a runner to 3rd in the bottom of the 8th but could not plate him, ending the game.

Good recap gbacks, except the Mustangs pitcher was Cody Drake. Hats off to Mitch Besselievre, he was very good, especially with runners in scoring position. His straight change (which is anything but straight) from that side arm delivery may be the best pitch I've seen all year.

The hard luck Mustangs left runners ar third in the first inning and third inning, at first and second in the fourth, and at second and third in the seventh. Once again they couldn't get the timely hit, going 0-7 with runners in scoring position.
