    Suspension

Sherrill informed me he told his County Athletic Director Scott Barriger that he would take a Saturday (this was before the 55-0 game) and have a camp for the players from Harding and West Charlotte. Nothing happened.

After seeing all the parts of this story unfold, The West Charlotte A.D. took exception to the game, told the Cabarrus CO. A.D. a blown up version of the game (Actually he was only there for about ten minutes in the second inning.) and the Cabarrus County A. D. jumped the gun on the issue without hearing exactly what happened. Afterwards the Co. A.D. tried to resend the suspension, but Sherrill told him that the damage was done.

It all goes back to one point in the middle of the 1st inning. When Sherrill asked the Coach if she just wanted to hit, I feel like the ball was in West Charlotte's court. She droppped the ball.

I saw the story on the The Best Damn Sports Show, ESPN on Thursday and Sherrill told me yesterday that ESPN radio was calling today. All in favor of CC.

    Please

Can we just end this thread? I really think it has run its course and no real good can come out of any comments we could make. CC has a great team, a successful coach, and West Charlotte struggles in softball and does well in other sports and activities, enough said. :blah: :blah:

    Am i the only one!?!?

:twocents: Okay…my turn! I play high school ball and I have played against West Charlotte. I understand that they are not the strongest team in the conference but I think that the CC coach SHOULD be suspended. I don’t care how competitive you are, how good you are, you should NEVER run up a score THAT high. I admire those West Charlotte player for even giving up their their time to participate in the best sport out there. They are learning and trying to get better each year. When CC came in and ran that score up, I can only imagine how they felt. If I were them, my self-esteem would have gone right down the drain. And I love the game so much that I don’t think I could let my team do that to another team that is not as experienced as mine. You may say I am not competitive, well you don’t know me very well. I am one of the most competitive people you will meet, but I could never stoop that low to run a score up that high. Thanks for taking your time to read my opinion and good luck to all the teams and the girls who play the best sport ever!!!

Is it a shock to the West Charlotte team that the score was like that? First, I have played baseball against West Charlotte. They have crappy coaching all the way around, the players play their hearts out. From what I have heard, Central offered to end the game, or do something to prevent the score from going that high, and West Charlotte refused. As a competetive softball player, can you tell me that if your coach told you to strike out or told you to bunt it back to the pitcher, that you would be able to do it? I personally could not do that. There is no way I am going to get myself out on purpose. In my eyes, I would rather sit the bench than get out on purpose. The point of the game is to do the best you can and play to the best of your ability. I agree that 55-0 is absolutely rediculous, even as a football score. But if the other team refuses to let the game end, or refuses to do what Central has offered, to whom does the falt belong? The coach of the Central team wasn't having his team huddle up to tell them he wants to beat them by 55 runs, all he was doing was telling them to play to the best of their ability, that's his job. It's not his fault that West Charlotte lacks talent on the playing field and in the coaching department.

    But...

I have seen that the Central team stole bases in the first inning (6 or so). Why? Is there really ANY need for them to steal on a team they know they are going to drill into the ground? I don't see any purpose for it bit to blow up the players' stats, which is wrong. He shouldn't have stolen one base, not even with the score at 0-0. He knew the game would be a blowout, so stealing bases just isn't needed. There are things that can be done to prevent a 55 run game, but from my understanding, Central did what they could to prevent it.

    Get Your Team on Defense

I don't think I agree with the suspention but I do know that the coach can control the score in a game like this. When they can't get you out you walk kids off base early. Make the outs for them. Yes I know it goes against everything you work, preach, and teach at practice........but the kids you coach understand why. I don't know how many times an opposing coach has thanked me for holding the score in the 20's......knowing I could have scored 50's or 60's. Sometimes going base to base and no stealing needs more help. You start with that and if it doesn't work you go to some other things. NEVER ASK A KID TO STRIKEOUT THOUGH. I do commend Coach Sherrill for the job he does. He has built a program to model after. You can watch him coach and know his passion for the game and each of his players.:satana: :trophy: :satana:

    okay...

West meck...I see where you are coming from. But if you said "they know they are going to drill into the ground?" then why not take it easy on them. Give them a chance...you know your going to win, why KILL them...yes i know you never take it easy...BUT define "competetive". 55-0 is not comptetive to me.... but i do see where you are coming form.
