    Conference tournament game scheduling

Amen to the comments that there was no thinking about the "players instead of the gates" - those thoughts didn't happen....I can confirm the "getting to bed after taking the uniforms out at 1:00 am"...been there before and just went thru it again...Along with the late game start time, you also have the issues when you play back to back games that have to start at 5:00, it causes a huge issue this week with the AP testing going on....some players had to be drove to fields yesterday separately after testing was completed in the afternoon, barely got there in time for approximately 20 minutes of warmup time before the start of the game....then if you had a late nite last nite, didn't leave much time or energy for the studying aspect of AP testing for today. Wasn't much forethought put into the players' needs.

It is great, that we can all agree that this is definitely a problem. So what do we do? What is a realistic course of action? Discussions with each of our local AD's, county athletic director, coaches... what?

These kids are placed in a situation, that makes it difficult for them to succeed. We should be able to create a situation that they can succeed at both, athletics and academics.

For those fortunate enough to move on through the playoffs, the road is extremely difficult. AP testing, SAT's, EOG testing, final exams. Hey, lets just place a few late night ball games in there each week to help. What ever happened to Friday nights, Saturdays.

Sorry for the ranting and raving, but dont you think it is time that someone step up and place a little common sense in this equation. The sad reality is that some coaches and parents say that it is just part of the HS game.
We all must stop and realize that we are talking about our kids future, both off the field and on the field. How are they expected to perform (in school and on the field) when they get 5 hrs of sleep.

Also, for those of us with small children, we cannot enjoy these late night games watching our kids perform. Someone has got to tuck the little ones in bed long before the midnight hour. All of our kids have worked so hard to reach this level. The parents should be able to enjoy a good high school game without worrying about getting in bed before 1AM. Hopefully, we can all take a few moments to express our concerns, that future playoff schedules
    can be addressed properly.

I have been told, on numerous occasions, that part of the problem with Saturday games stems from the lack of support by athletic directors...don't know how much truth there is to that, but we would have been in favor of playing several makeup games on Saturday, just to be told that it wasn't feasible or convenient. I have one moving out of the high school action, but another one coming along giving us three more years of high school play. I agree that we, as parents, need to communicate to the right parties that the "academic" needs of the players needs to be protected, when making decisions regarding athletic scheduling. We preach and preach that "academics" come first and foremost, but the examples set by some of the scheduling doesn't reflect that preaching. Any ideas as to who to communicate our concerns to?

    Send concerns to Vicki Hamilton

    Vicky:

Not sure if the spelling of her first name is correct, but I would assume she is the logical person to approach as she is the Head of Char-Meck School Atheletics. At the very least a good place to start.

    Know why?

It is about accomodating fans as well as the almighty dollar and not to mention THE respective AD's. To my knowledge THE players are at the mercy of every one else unfortunately. PE Dept's and AD's really truly do NOT AT ALL & could care less about academics! You only see them when their star is on the verge of being academically ineligible I KNOW! PLEASE know that this is NOT a blanket statement either in reference to ALL Depts and AD's! Just the sad facts however for the vast majority!
