Not where we play. It's all about throwing strikes and gettin outs. Ask our better pitchers, that threw hard, that are pitching in college now how many times they got yanked in the first inning after back to back walks. Throwing strikes and good defense gets you wins, balls get you beat. Velocity has no factor at all unless you have command and throw strikes. A great example is a kid that pitches for us now, Spencer Linn. Tops out about 84, stays around 80. Is 19-2 over the last 2 years. Hardly ever a ball in the middle of the plate.

Yea, but when selecting pitchers the list is inverted since everyone knows, velocity can't be taught. The question is whether location/control is just an acquired skill or a tool/gift like velocity.

If average HS velocity is 78-80, Linn is above average.

Heffner has faced 257 batters in 59 innings of work and has walked only 10 while striking out 65. 4 hit batsmen on the year!

    BLAKE BOSTIC

An example of the kind of pitcher Blake is :
Last Mon, 1st game of conf. tour., he enters in 6th inning with his team up two runs, and a 3-0 count on the leadoff hitter. He throws the kid 3 straight strikes, all fastballs, for the strikeout. Strikes out the next kid on 4 pitches, then gets a first pitch groundout. 8 pitches, 3 outs, out of the jam.
He is a junior, 8-1 on the season with 3 saves. East Rutherford would be average this year without him. He's also being recruited by Clemson and other ACC schools as a place-kicker.

I agree with you neckball, but when it comes to scouts, they look for velocity and feel they can teach the other two.

The other area that doesn't get much attention that I feel is just as important is heart...some have it and some don't
