    SW Guilford: 5
    Parkland: 4

This game definetly deserves a new thread. Last night all the game meant was seeding in the playoffs for SW Guilford but if you were there you would have thought that it was a game for the state championship. From homeruns, to triples, to diving plays, to double plays, this game had it all.
The Parkland Mustangs scored first on a sac fly by Jared Dodds scoring Dusty Joyce who reached on a double. The Cowboys tied it up in the 4th when an error was charged to the right fielder when a flyball went, literally, through his glove. In the top of the 5th Jared Dodds led off with a double and scored on a squeeze play executed perfectly by Rob Johnson. Bubba Donathan then hit a 2-run homerun that gave the Mustangs a 4-1 lead which they held until the bottom of the seventh.
After a single, a walk, and an error on the second baseman, the Cowboys had the bases loaded when Jon Helsabeck came in to relieve Mustang starter Cory Snyder. Helsabeck struckout the first batter and the next man hit a fly ball to centerfield which was dropped for the third error in the game; the centerfielder picked up the ball threw it to second for one out and as one Cowboy scored, another was on its way as Bubba Donathan threw a one-hopper to catcher Rob Johnson to tag out Riley Inman. Inman and Johnson bumped chests a few times before Helsabeck stepped between the two; this was followed by a "coaches conference" with the umpires.
The game was tied 4-4 going into the top of the 8th and with the crowd pumpin, Jon Helsabeck hit a double off the 385 sign in centerfield. Helsabeck was then thrown out diving back into second when Dusty Joyce pulled a bunt attempt back. In the bottom of the 8th, Helsabeck got the first guy to ground out and then Adam Pallaci hit a groundball between 1st and 2nd which scooted under the right fielders glove allowing Pallaci to advance all the way to third. The Mustangs intentionally loaded the bases before Chase Weavil hit the game winning RBI single by the third baseman.
***Keys to the Game*** - In the 6th, Jon Helsabeck led-off with a triple and the other Mustangs were unable to get him. The Mustangs had their 11th game of the year where they made 3 errors or more.

    CrazyhorseKhalil23,
An excellent synopsis of a game with a little of everything. SW Guilford obviously wanted to win in order to set up a play-off game today against Rockingham to determine seeding for the state playoffs, which SW won very easily compared to the Parkland game. But Parkland played their hearts out and Coach Massey deserve a lot of credit for getting his guys up for this game. Trey coached with as much heart as his players played.

Parkland had to scratch their starting centerfielder, sophomore Romey Bradshaw, due to what appeared to be an injury stemming from throwing a ball home during pre-game. This forced a shift in the outfield and that is where a couple of costly errors took place during the game.

SW Guilford probably benefited greatly from the play-off level of intensity and Parkland definitely has a lot to be proud of and to look forward to next season.

SW Guilford won 13-3 in 6 innings.

Both teams finished with a 12-4 conference record.

SW Guilford will get the #2 seed and travel to Orange.

Rockingham will go to Clayton I believe.
