    Indy vs ND

Lets set the record staight about the freshman starter for ND. He played JV and his record was 1-4 for the season. That win came against the last place team in the CPC. He did only give up 2 runs and 5 hits in 1 1/3 before being pulled. There were lots of questions about starting him.

    NW Cabarrus 11 Piedmont 4

    WP - Nick Daniels
    Save - Blake Ketner
    LP - Rob Lyerly

Kyle Seager breaks open a 2-2 tie in the 4th with a GRAND SALAMI off of Timmy King!!!! (who had just came on in relief of Lyerly)

After Piedmont closed to 7-4 in the 6th, Ryan Wildrick put it away with another GRAND SALAMI off of King!!!!

The real dagger-in-the-heart came in the 6th when Ketner, in relief of Daniels with the tying run at the plate in the form of home-run specialist Danny Herman, threw one pitch that resulted in a bang-bang 1-6-3 double play.

Timmy King, who had just pitched Tuesday night, tried to slip a fastball by Seager after showing him two completely filthy curves. In the 7th, King's curve wasn't breaking as much and he looked a little tired when Wildrick hit his bomb.

Ketner then repaid Daniels for his Tuesday night save with a save of his own to end the 7th. (he only threw 11 pitches in relief)

The final score was not indicative of how this game went most of the night. It was quite a battle with both teams threatening in the first 3 frames....then Seager hit his blast.

    HITTING:
    NWC:
Kyle Seager 2-3, HR, GRAND SLAM, 3 R, 4 RBI
Ryan Wildrick, 2-4, 2B, HR, GRAND SLAM, 5 RBI
    Blake Ketner, 2 RBI
    Jerrod Faggart, 2-3, 1R
    Jake Faggart, 1-3, 2R

Piedmont (sorry, I'm not sure who hit 2Bs, RBIs)
    Logan, 3-4,
    Brian Parker, 2-4

    GREAT 2B DEFENSE:
Connor Bean for his dive to his right and the flip to 2B with the bases loaded in the 2nd. (ESPN Sportscenter Highlight)
Brian Parker's leaping catch and 4-3 DP on Bret Honeycutt's screamer with men in scoring position.

NEXT: Sun Valley @ NWC Tuesday night (probables: Chuck Hargett vs. Blake Ketner)

    Owen 9 East Rutherford 7

East Rutherford's 3 yr reign as 2A State Champion ends as Owen defeated the Cavs 9-7. The first two batters for Owen reached on errors, then after a Steven Hensley single scored on BJ Perrys 3 run blast and Owen jumped out to a 4-0 lead. The Cavs fought back, led by Robbie Pruett's 3 run HR. Hensley was brought in to face the tying run in the 6th, but struck out the side, hitting 94 mph on the radar gun. But ER got the tying run to the plate with one out in the 7th only to see the game end on 2 K's.

    Leading Hitters :
    ER - Blake Bostic 3-4, 2 R
    Robbie Pruett 2-3, R, 3 RBI, HR
    Tyler Smith 2-4, R, RBI, 2B

    Owen - Stephen Hensley 4-4, 3 R
    BJ Perry 2-4, 2 HR, 5 RBI

Pitching - Winning Pitcher -Chandler Losing Pitcher - Smith

East Rutherford finishes 22-6 on the year, while Owen advances to play at West Henderson Tuesday. Congraluations to the Warhorses, they should have as good a chance as anybody to win the State.

That sets up the rubber match at West Henderson next Tuesday night. The teams split in the regular season with WH taking the 1st one 3-0, and Owen the second 4-1. Ought to be a large and lively crowd for this one. WHC doing a little better in the playoffs this year.

Rose /Garner suspended in the top of the 6th with Rose up 11-3. Rain was making this game very ugly. Garner looked to be overmatched. 3 HRs for Rose.

In 1A, Princeton defeated Topsail 4-3.
