Todays coverage of high school sports is so astounding words can barely describe it: 3 massive photos and front page coverage of Cab Cty Girls softball? The SW4A/MECA8 title games at UNCC? single column bottom page 6 or 7 below Ashbrook softball/baseball coverage. ugh? Justify that Langston.

Perhaps there are more readers in Cab Cty that have an interest in girls softball. Perhaps there are more readers of Observer Sports in Gastonia. More than the Observer's circulation between Mint Hill and Pineville (EMeck vs Providence HS's)? Duh?

And the quality of the coverage was appalling. You have a guy write front page and 1/4 page on Cab Cty girls softball and some woman, who obviously did not attend the game she was supposed to cover, do a call in report on the SW4A title game. The drama she conveyed was a thunderstorm. What about the game? Holy cow! she stinks! Holy cow! the Observer stinks! The SW4A and MECA8 title games are important enough to be held at a D1 college facility, be financially sponsored and covered by numerous scouts but the Observer buries it with a piece of crap article.

Only one justification: the Observer and its NYTimes parent thought it more important to "Title IX the news" than report the story on at least an equivalent footing.

Please explain it to us Langston.

I could not agree more. What a hugh dissapointment. Was not able to get to the game last night, so I was really looking forward to some good reading from the Observer this morning. Am I interested in Girls Softball? NO!!! The only people that are interested in that sport are the girls parents. If you're going to do a story about the girls, at least do it about a local team, like the Butler Bulldogs.

If there was another paper in town, maybe the Observer would get off of its high horse and do a better job. That paper is AWFUL!:banginghe

GREAT articles the past 3 days about high school baseball Observer.

(Surely you know I am not serious, but The Observer did tell us we may be getting a NASCAR Hall of Fame - what the hay would you put in there?? - and I hope a WWF Hall of Fame to go with it. How in the world a fixed sport that kills people every month is so popular is beyond me - wait I forgot Rome & the Coliseum. . . We humans love it when people die. . .)

the observer has indeed given much better placement and insight to boys baseball since the articles that spurred this thread

    Only because it's playoff time.

I agree 100%. I'll save my thoughts for another thread.

Maybe if there was a baseball team ranked 4th in the nation or one that had one 53 games in a row they might get a little pub as well. I say Central Cabarrus is worthy of all the coverage they get they have worked hard to be one of not only the best in the state each year but one of the best in the nation.

As for the comment that only the parents care that couldnt be farther from the truth if that was the case i dont think both local news stations would have been there and somewhere between 700-900 peope would have been at Central Cabarrus Friday nite for the game against Butler. Any local baseball games have that many people attend?
