I saw the Diamond Warrior and Pelicans games. What a pitcher's duel between Parmer and Read in the Pelicans game. One hour and five minutes to play seven innings. Both kids were on shut down mode.

Triple Crown Sports Tournament in Burlington

I lack details, but the Watauga High 16-and-under summer squad staged a miraculous comeback to win a best 2 out of 3 against the Copperheads 16-and-under in Burlington this weekend. After losing the first game 9-5, Watauga trailed 3-0 in the second game but rallied to tie it at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth then pushed across the winner in the seventh.

But that was nothing compared to the rally in the rubber game. Trailing 10-1 in the top of the seventh, Watauga plated 10 runs and then held on in the bottom of the seventh for an improbable 11-10 victory!!! The Copperheads did their part by issuing several bases on balls in the inning, but Michael Butler, Devin Presnell, Trey Dunnigan, and Lee Amman all had timely hits in the inning -- Amman's hit came with the score 10-9 and two outs with runners on second and third to drive in the tying and winning runs.

Watauga also defeated the Copperheads 15U (6-5) at the tournament and were 4-1 on the weekend.

I was really impressed with the attitude of the Copperheads 16's, they are a baseball smart, well-coached, classy program (though I might not say the same for the cocky, mouthy 15's). The 16's played amazing defense, especially the third baseman, but seemed to run out of pitching in the last inning of their 5th game on the weekend. I wish them good luck in the future.

The Carolina Copperheads 18U scrimmaged the Carolina Gators tonight in a double header. In two tight games the Copperheads came out on top 2-1 and 11-10. Both teams used all their pitchers and then some with the boys looking a little tired toward the end of the second game. No stats were kept.

Sundays games at the Impact Team Tournament in Boone were canceled due to the impending weather. Don't know most of the results but on Saturday the Copperheads 18U won 2. The first over Knoxville 11-0 with Andy Oliver the winning pitcher. In the second game the Copperheads defeated the Dirtbags 07 in a 2-1 game with Dusty White the winning pitcher. If anyone else has any of the other scores, please post them as I would like to know how some of the other teams did.

    On Deck O's 17's

    Gamecock Classic

This was the On Deck 17's 1st tournament of the year and they did a pretty good job down at usc this weekend considering they still have a couple guys banged up, they finished up 2-1-1 verses a couple good squads.

    Game 1
    On Deck 17's - 6
    Diamond Devils 17's - 2

    WP: Matt Andress

big win vs. a good team at sarge frye field, on deck palyed very good defense behind andruss who pitched beautiful shut out baseball for 5 innings. Devin Harris went deep to lead the o's.
    Game 2
    On Deck 17's - 3
    East Cobb somethins? - 3

After going up 3-0, on deck gave up 3 runs in the 5th after some very sloppy defense, the game ended after 6 innings b/c of the 2 hour timelimit.

    Game 3
    On Deck 17's - 3
    East Cobb ??? - 5

The O's had bases loaded in each of the 6 and 7 innings with less then 2 outs but couldn't convert. several outstanding defense plays were made for the o's infield by tyler kirkpatrick, reid rollision, and chase austin, but sloppy outfield play aloud EC some unearned runs

    Game 4
    On Deck 17's - 13
East Cobb White Sox - 5

    WP: Keith Carrigan

On Deck hit the ball extremely well and played clean defense and routed east cobb. Overall not a bad weekend for the 17's, once they work on certain things and get everyone healthy they should be very very tough to beat. a schedule and team roster can be found at http://www.ondeckbaseball.net/Index2.htm
