The exposure teams get is greater in ASA tourneys. It is a shame NC ASA does not promote and market fastpitch as well as NSA, USSSA, AAU and others.

In the major tourneys across the country, ASA is all the college coaches see because the best teams play ASA. (NC is the exception, but the college coaches don't realize this). It just makes sense for the college coaches to go where most of the better talent is playing.

There plenty of NC teams that could and should compete in ASA, but due to the fact most ASA tourneys are not local to NC, most teams and players do not have the financing to travel to GA, TN, CO. FL, TX, CA. every week. (but it can be done with a little fundraising and effort).

Another thing that I think works against NC and the ASA is the number and quality of the fields in NC. Last week while travelling with the Cardinals in CO., there seemed to be nice softball complexes everywhere. Here in NC, softball complexes are hard to find and many are not maintained very well. This is why Rock Hill and Cherry Park gets so much NC business. The ASA is alive and well in SC and I would say mostly due to the number of quality fields.

However until the NC ASA does a better job in promoting fastpitch and more softball complexes are built, things will probably remain the same.

My rhetorical question is "why so many sanctioning bodies?" We have an AAU national tournament going this week/weekend with a total of 8 teams in 10U, maybe a few more in 12/14U. National tournament....hardly. I'd like to think it wasn't about the money...but is there another valid reason? It's hard to keep up with all the minor rule differences anyway. If we could all just get along....

I agree, those two fields at Shuey are hard. THey were hard back 15 years ago when I played industrial league softball there. I think they are suppose to building a new park near the nursery field.

    AAU Nationals In Concord

    Plenty of softball this week.
AAU is having a tournament in Concord also.
    I don't think they are any 16 & 18u in this tournament.

How many age groups are they having at the ASA States? Are they all played on those 2 fields at Shuey?? Heard the 18U Challengers were going to be there also. Nice field for the 18U looks like.

    Morganton ASA State tournament

18U Carolina Cardinals (McHone) are playing at Freedom HS, at 12:00, Saturday, received a bye (play winner of Psychos vs Lady Blues). Games are being played at Shuey Park and Freedom HS. Do not have any info on brackets. For us, ASA is where to play serious ball with consistent quality umpiring. NSA is okay and we like playing there sometimes.

I don't know what has happened to USSSA girls fastpitch, at least in the Triad area, it's dead. That organization seems to have gone down the "lost highway." They need to reorganize, revamp their communication skills to the 21st century.

By having all of the different organizations, just shows off the growth of the sport itself, in NC. And yes, it is all about the money.[IMG]
