To everyone that coaches high school softball in North Carolina. The NCFSCA will meet in Greensboro on Thursday, July 21 immediately after the final clinic presentation. Please plan to stay for this very important meeting. There are some important issues that need to be addressed by the full membership. Also, prospective new members can pick up forms at this meeting. Look forward to seeing all of you in Greensboro.

Pop- who exactly are prospective members? Last year Lin said any softball coach in NC could become a member of the association- NCFSCA, however after driving to Greensboro last July I learned that you had to first be a member of the NCCA, but that assosciation is only open to NC high school coaches. Can you clarify things for this year? Thanks.

    BMac,

You can become an associate member of the NCCA IF you go to the Greensboro clinic you can register as an associate member and receive a card that reflects this. This will allow you to go to any of the meetings. Email me if you have further questions. [email protected]

    Coach,

I paid the dues and applied as an associate member last year, then about 2 weeks after the meeting, I received a call from the NCCA office asking me to return my associate member card and I would also have to forfeit the dues paid. The reason given was that I was not a high school or middle school coach. [IMG]

Will this be any different this year? Hopefully it will.

I am an associate NCCA member and as I understand it is that the Associate mambership is for anyone that coaches at a HS but is not a member of staff (teacher) be it vol. or if you hold another job in the school system (security or other worker). If you do not coach HS you cannot hold any card in the NCCA. The A.D. from the school where you coach is required to submit a list of all coaches to the NCCA
    Hope this helps.

    This is correct

Only HS and Middle school coaches are allowed membership into the NCHSAA. After the July meeting, a roster of the members is sent to the NCHSAA schools to insure proper membership. Each A.D./Principal must submit/verify the proper documents for a coach's membership. So no one outside of a school can be a member.

According to rules and regulations of the NCCA, an associate member of the organization must coach at the high school or middle school level. On the associate membership form, just like it is on the coaches registration form, the applicant is required to name the school at which he/she coaches. It is the responsibility of the athletic director or principal to turn in a list of coaches on staff at their respective schools. If your name is not on the list, the NCCA and NCHSAA will revoke your membership. At this meeting in Greensboro, the NCFSCA is hoping to add prospective members from the pool of coaches (for whatever reason) chose not to join last year. After the meeting in Greensboro, the Regional Chairpersons will meet shortly after to discuss, among other things, associate memberships to the NCFSCA. I will not be able to comment any further on this subject until after the regional chairs meet. The prospective members that I was referring to in my previous post will be coaches who have joined the NCCA and will be coaching at their schools. I hope this clarifies things for you and I am sorry for the confusion on this matter.

Our meeting in Greensboro went well. Coaches in attendance were very vocal about what they felt needed to be done as quickly as possible. Members to the Executive board were nominated and voted in as well as a couple of new regional chairpersons. The membership stated that the regional chairpersons should get to work and decide what our next steps should be in a multitude of situations. Two scholarships, an All-State team for 2005, and the 2006 membership drive are just a few of the particulars to be worked out. Also, and most importantly for our organization, what concerns our committee will take to the NCHSAA this year. The Regional meeting will be on August 10th. This should be a great work session and I feel confident that many great things will come from this meeting. I am looking forward to the outcome of this meeting as I am sure the membership of the NCFSCA is. I will try to keep everyone informed in the coming weeks about the decisions made and the direction the NCFSCA is headed. Let me assure you that our organization is working to promote the sport we love. Now is the time to put our promotions into actions.
