Heck of a pitching duel between Andrew Morton and Lonnie Chisenhall. Both went the distance. Morehead City had three hits and Lexington had five. Daniel Kassouf continues to swing a hot bat in the 8 hole for Lexington. He hit a homerun for Lexington's first run. Tyler McKenzie got a hit, took second on a sacrifice by Brandon Clodfelter and scored on a base hit from Zack Roach for Lexington's second run. Morehead City's run was unearned due to a Lexington error. The win improves Andrew Morton to 12-0 on the season.

I watched all 4 games yesterday, & here are my conclusions:

--Area 3 was loaded with teams capable of playing at this level. Maybe that's how it is in other Areas...but I'm positive that Rowan, Ktown, Stanly, Mocksville, Randolph, Winston, & Burlington could have competed.

--Pitt is the real deal. Their best attribute is their defense, especially the outfield. They cover alot of acres.

--If Lexington had Andrew Hunt (our #2 lefty who was 7-1 when he had ACL surgery), we would be a threat. As it stands, our next 2 pitchers are 15 year old rising sophomores. Capable & gutsy kids with a bright future, but at this level & at this time, you have to wonder...

--Shelby impressed me, but some have questioned their pitching depth. I wouldn't know.

--Without a doubt, the most bush fans I have ever observed in my life are Caldwell. The PA announced that no noise makers are permitted, but they still filled bottles with nails or rocks 7 banged away. They yell at the players of the other team, sometimes calling them by name. Every call is assaulted. Profanity is sprinkled in. And you can hear the rowdy ones all over the park. Enthusiasm is a great thing, but this bunch is over the top. There is no place for that in this game that we all love.

Thanks for your unbiased opinion ukdookie. Guess if you had watched shelby kick our butts 11-0 you would have predicted caldwell would have went 5 and 30. I love you guys that watch one baseball game and think you can peg a teams quality. I dont think baseball works that way. Eastern Randolph played a great game and they deserved to win. I give them all the credit.

I thought the noise makers meant ( air horns, mechanical store bought devices , etc.)

btw.. that noisy group have always been that way. I remember them from AAU days back in 2000/2001, maybe even 2002.

Moose, 3 points that you either overlooked or ignored:

    1) I referred to the HYPE...not the talent. Example: I was talking to a couple of East Randolph fans before yesterday's game. A man from Caldwell walked by & unsolicited pointed to his Caldwell hat & said: "You're looking at this year's state champs." Then he walked on w/o another word. We were all dumbfounded. The guy on the radio called this a HUGE upset. This morning's newspaper echoed that sentiment. That is the hype I was referencing.

    2) I've seen Caldwell twice. We came to Cherryville on the Friday evening that you lost that heartbreaker in the playoffs. (1 hitter going...Cherryville scored 4 in 8th as I recall). So it was not based on just one game that I offered my opinion.

    3) I said that Caldwell may come back & win this thing. I've been wrong before & may have this one upside down. Baseball is a funny game...it's all about pitching.

So forgive me if I offended you in offering my opinion. I have edited that part out of my original post. If it helps any, I would definitely favor Caldwell over Lexington (unless we were throwing Andrew Morton).
