    it was

actually the second pitch to the kid that hit him the first one was low and away. It would have been to obvious to hit him on the first pitch. He can blame his own player for showboating on the cherryville pitcher cause we all knew it was coming you do not pull that kind of stunt on cherryvilles home field. What was he thinking??????? :wtf23:

One more thing to add to the Shelby/Lexington game. I'll need some help here....UK can look at his scorebook and tell us for sure, but in the 5th inning when Lexington scored 4, Josh Bush hit a routine double-play ball that would have got Shelby out of the inning. This was just prior to Zack Roach hitting a homerun to put Lexington ahead. I think the game was tied at that point. Point is, if they would have made that play (granted the field/ball was very wet), things could have been very different.

9 is correct. Bush got on base on a fielder's choice. The ball was wet when the 2nd baseman (I think) fielded it. He threw it low & no attempt was made at first. The tying run scored on that play too. Could have been fatal for Lexington.

As a side note, we learned last night that Shelby's 2nd baseman is playing at this high level while dealing with Cystic fibrosis. What a gamer!!!!! Unbelievable. He gained a bunch of fans last night from the Lexington side.

Cherryville's coach is definately "old school". But it goes deeper than that. I bet ol' Roy Waters made that call. You know, the Commish. If you didn't already know, he has it in for Caldwell, Shelby, and every other team that loses.:laugh2:

    UK you're right

Well said again Rev. C'mon, Shelby fans. I completely understand the dissapointment, but it's not like this is a new rule. I even heard some of the fans talking about it up in the stands. That is why these tourney's are double elimination. Everyone gets a second chance at whatever. Every year someone says that Roy Waters is out to get them. This stuff is just so tired. Nines, your exactly right on that double play ball. The SS was late getting there and that would have ended the inning. How about someone taking some ownership and quit casting the blame on someone else. Good Luck the rest of the way Shelby and Lexington. These are my two favorite teams in the tourney. Both of them play hard and have good all around teams.

In reference to UK7Dook3's statement about Caldwell's player tipping his helmet after hitting a homerun against Cherryville. You said you don't do that against them. Well the same thing happened toCherryville in the B state tournament when Cherryville' pitcher hit a 3 run shot against D. H. Connelly (That put them ahead 8 - 6) He danced around after crossing first base. The next hitter came up for Cherryville and got beamed. But here the funny part. The next inning Connelly came to bat had 2 runners on and the next kid hits a three run shot off of the pitcher that had danced around and Connelly wins the game 9 -8 and knocks Cherryville out of the tournament. Bottom line you shouldn't prance around after hitting a homerun regardless of who you play for. Nobody likes that. The only other thing I have to say is that at lease Caldwell and 6 other teams earned their way to the State tourny.

You couldn't be more right about that!!!!

    :agreed:

Just to get another discussion going.......Somebody help me here. I know that there are several stipulations for holding a state tourney (lighting power, seating capacity etc.). Does anyone know exactly what they are??? Nothing against Cherryville and their team, coaches, officials or facilities, but in my opinion, having a field tarp should be one of the stipulations to hold this sort of event.

I agree. To hold a tournament of this magnitude and importance a field should have whatever it takes to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen. Besides that no game should be called in 5 innings unless it is under the run rule. There are to many hours in the day for this to happen. Not saying that Shelby would have won but they should have played the game out the next day.

    E. Randolph 3

    Pitt County 2

ER scored 2 in the bottom of the 8th to get the victory.

Area III is 4-0. Unbelievable. ER vs. Lexington tonight in the championship of the winners bracket. These two teams just played a heckuva series last week. Ought to be a classic.
