Someone suggested that Pitt wasn't very excited to be heading to Alabama. They had kids (Ace pitcher Garret Bullock & catchers Wilson and Maclaga) who had obligations (vacation & college & other sports).

If that is true, they may not have brought their "A" game. And they are shorthanded since you cannot add to your 18 man roster.

If that is true.....what a shame that these guys would pass up a chance to play for their county and North Carolina to go on vacation & ect....where is the heart

My guess would be that it should have said "innings" instead of "pitches". I'd bet that he said he wasn't going to pitch over X number of innings this summer and he has reached that number. I get the feeling that this kid has a plan that he doesn't want to deviate from. Sounds like he approaches baseball like a job. I heard that he was in the workout room every morning in Cherryville doing his workout routine.

I'm going to take this opportunity to rant just a little. I don't know this kid or his situation and I'm not dogging him - this just sparked my opinion. Some of this goes back to some of the showcase debate as well. I'm just curious as to at what point does a player these days play for his teammates and his team. High school guys play in the summer to showcase their skills (in Showcase ball or legion or whatever) so they can get a scholarship to a better college. Then they play in college and on the wooden bat circuit to showcase their skills so they can get drafted. When they get drafted they showcase their skills in the minors so they can make it to the big leagues. When they make it to the big leagues, they showcase their skills so they can make a mint on their next contract and on and on. The (obvious) point I'm trying to make here is that baseball these days seems to be more and more about the individual. What happened to the days when guys would play a double-header with nobody in the stands in the heat of the day for a hotdog in between games and nothing else. My apologies to all the real "gamers" out there (at any level) who play their tails off for their teammates and their team - just trying to make a point about what I see happening to the grand ole game.

The guy who told me that Bullock was not playing in Alabama said that his reason was 'a tired arm' that he needed to rest so he would be fresh this Fall at Wake Forest. It could be that he has been over-pitched by his Legion coach. In the 1st game of the State Finals, the kid from Pitt (can't recall his name...not Alex White or Bullock) threw 147 pitches. I personally counted them. 147 is ridiculous. So the blame may lie with the coach.

Having said that, I am 100% with "NINE"...The fun & beauty of baseball has been diminished by 'me-ism'. When my son was interviewed by the local paper, he mentioned that one of Lexington's secrets for success this year was "nobody thinks he's better than the rest." I gave him an 'atta boys' for seeing things as they were & should be.
