How many of these things is it neccessary for a player to attend? I see some names that keep popping up. Doesn't it get to be redundant after awhile?

Mac attended one workout and one underclassman showcase and I think it was worthwhile. Gave him a chance to find out where he stood with a bunch of the top players his age. I don't think further participation would do him any good. They have seen him run, swing, and pitch. I believe the work he is putting in with the Cubs is far more valuable.

Not sure how the games went but I did hear at least a couple of the top radar readings during the pens prior to the games. Someone who was there can add or modify....

Lee Oxendine '06 (Scotland Co.) 89 mph*
Blake Hassebrock '07 (Parkland) 87 mph*
(*- not sure if this is Jugs or Stalker)

I heard there were a good number of colleges until the end of the day when some of the younger players started entering the games. I also heard it was a little tough for hitters since the umps were calling from behind the mound, but hopefully some of the unsigned seniors helped themselves out.

Did Blake Hassebrock '07 transfer to Parkland this year from somewhere or was he on their team last year? I have read and heard several things about him but have not heard of him before this year?

Blake transferred from SW Guilford to Parkland this year. He is a young-ish Junior who has a lot of potential and is a good kid.

sorry I'm so late guys. My computer has been down since this weekend and I just got it back up. This weekend was a terrible showcase to be a part of. From a scout standpoint for myself, it seemed very rushed and I never got to see a player get in a groove and get to perform. Numerous times the bat was taken out of kids hands because the "Impact umpires" were standing behind the mound. One good thing I got out of this weekend was that I got to see some players I had only heard about on here and in the baseball loop in person. i got to see Kyle Boyan from Glenn who had a terrible rushed round of BP but took some good hacks in the games and hit 1.9 on a pop-time twice. I also saw Dustin Johnson from Reynolds. "DJ" ran one of the quickest 60 times and made some great plays up the middle throughout the day. Johnson switch hit and was able to get a triple. And he gets out of the box quick! I also got to see Jon Helsaback who I have heard a lot about on here. This kid is big and strong and has smooth glovework at short to go along with great range. He didnt get much to hit in the games but had a good round of BP and took some powerful cuts when he got the chance. Tyler Manring from West Forsyth got walked in his only plate appearance I saw and ran the bases with a good hard nosed all out attitude. Alex Sheltan (a sleeper) from McMichael throws upper 80's and will be a good pick up for someone. A left-handed pitcher that looks confident and got 3 up, 3 down with ease in the only inning he pitched. Im glad I finally got to see Johnson,Boyan, and Helsabeck after hearing a lot about them. Those guys are gonna have good senior years and I'm sure colleges will come knocking.

Impact Baseball.com has listed the top dozen pitchers and position players from this showcase on their website. Alex Shelton, Jon Helsabeck, and Kyle Boyan made this list (stand outs I posted on here earler). The Impact Staff broke down each players game.

MirrorImage7, I must agree with your assessment of the Impact showcase at Wofford. Yeah, it was rushed & terrible. From where I was sitting, the dirtbags got most playing time whether they are seniors or not, wasn't this a 'senior' showcase. Anyway, I also agree with your opinion of the players in the Winston-Salem area. Boyan & Helsabeck both did a great job, considering the circumstances. I have heard they will be at the Elon camp next month... you think it's worth their time and their parents money?
