    1) Tri-7:
Apex, Cary, Green Hope, Athens Drive, Fuquay, Lee County, Middle Creek

Athens replaces Western Harnett in what was already a strong baseball conference. That's as tough a conference as you will find from top to bottom.

The Cap-7 with Millbrook, Wake Forest, Wakefield, and Broughton (plus some others) is also pretty dang strong.

    Charlotte and Raleigh

combined have 18 of the 21 NC high schools that have 2000 or more students, so right off the bat they have a built-in advantage. Strength in numbers.

    State Championships

Here are the 4A State Champs for the past 10 years....:trophy:

    1996 Lee
    1997 Rose
    1998 Northwest Guilford
    1999 Rose

    2000 Apex
    2001 Lee
    2002 Fuquay-Varina
    2003 Rose
    2004 Rose
    2005 DH Conley

5 from Big East, 4 from Tri-7, 1 from Metro

Sorry I don't have runner-ups, as they are also strong teams from strong conferences and should be considered....

One could make the case that the Tri-7 is the toughest, as they have had more different winners than the Big East... Tri-7 2005 had a 4-way tie, but with only 2 spots in the tourney, former state champs Fuquay and Lee stayed home, Green Hope lost to Conley in the 2nd round... Top to bottom Tri-7 looks very strong... On the other hand, Big East is winning it all of late...

Conference realignment has meant the demise of the Big East. Rose is now in a combined 4A - 3A conference, the Coastal 8, which only has 2 4A programs (New Bern and Rose). The rest of the conference consists of 3A schools Havelock, D. H. Conley, South Central, Washington, West Carteret, and West Craven. It's still a good baseball conference, but I don't think it's as strong as the Big East was.

Wow, NW Guilford is the only western team in the last 10 years to win the 4A title? I'd imagine the 3A past 10 years is dominated by western teams... ?
