From my understanding in Volleyball this year that #1 Seeds got byes an all wildcards played on the road, but I may be wrong. It does seem to me that a wildcard should certainly not get a bye, and should be on the road unless it is playing another wildcard and then preferential seeding of conferences should determine who has the home game. JMHO.

Sure seems like the fairest way to me also. Hopefully if the expanded field is adopted it will be done this way. That way we can really have some good discussions (arguements) over strength of schedule vs. W-L records.

Yeah..this is the meeting I was referring to. I will be receiving quite a bit of info on this soon, then I will post it on the board. It is in Charlotte and it is in January.

That is correct. I believe they will vote on it in December. It will expand and apparently has the board's support...if not this year, certainly by 2007

But is this expansion of the playoffs coming from the coaches association or from NCHSAA. It will be hard to get the NCHSAA to move on this since at most schools baseball cannot support itself. I know at ours it can. I just wish we could go to 2 out of 3. That way the true best "teams" advance.

The decision is made by the NCHSAA. From what I have been told, the board of directors seem to be in support of the expansion.

    Here's a better idea.

Keep the playoff format the same up until the Regional. Instead of having the winners of each classification's East/West Regional play for the State Championship, have the regional winners (1A-4A East and West, total of 8 teams) compete for an undisputed State Championship.

As far as formats go, I'm not exactly sure the NCHSAA would go forward with a College World Series type format (Split double elimination, finalists play best of three) or even a straight double elimination tournament, because of final exams/graduation.. But maybe an eight-team placement tournament (Each team plays 3 games, a loss would knock them out of the championship, but could play for 7th, 5th, 3rd place) to where a team can end the season on a winning note.

Seedings could be determined by The Associated Press and the NCHSAA.

These tournaments could be played at a number of locations such as:

    Historic McCormick Field--Asheville
    Red Lackey Field--Boone
    L.P. Frans Stadium--Hickory
    Deal Stadium--Lenoir

    Boshamer Stadium--Chapel Hill
    Gene Hooks Stadium--Winston Salem
    Doak Field--Raleigh
    Five County Stadium--Zebulon

(A nice array of choices in both the east and west)
