There was an article in the widely read Matthews Record that legion baseball was coming back to a Matthews Post (@ Providence HS). If that happened, it would split the Pineville Post.

With mixed feelings, my questions are: is this a wish that someone desires? has a decision been made by the powers to be? On paper the Pineville Post would be extremely talented and deep in 2006 and a Matthews Post would likely dilute the opportunities for a run at the State title.

    Good or bad??

This is true. The team is not finalized at this point. The individuals that are looking to put it together are in sort of a discovery phase. They are looking for folks to help, funding, etc....

The Pineville boundaries currently extend well beyond Independence Blvd to Albemarle Rd and a huge downside to this would be the fact that Matthews would be pulling some of that talent from Butler, Indy and Prov. On the other hand, this will give allot more players the opportunity to play!! This is a big deal for players that can't afford or prefer to not do the pay-to-play programs.

The Pineville program is very well funded and the fees to the players are practically nothing. I would hope the Matthews Post could offer the same.

Matthews has a rich tradition of generating baseball talent and the addition of a legion program (or should I say the return of) will help keep the tradition alive.

I had not heard they were looking at Prov to be the home field but that makes perfect sense knowing the folks involved in putting this together.

Maybe Braves can get Coach Rummage to shed some light on this......

throwtheheat...anymore info? Who's trying to put it together?

Not that I'm apposed to Matthews having a team but Pineville has the potential to put together a great group of players this year and hopefully make a run at the State title and beyond.

    more info

DBacks....the name I am most familiar with is John Kemp. John has a long history of involvement with baseball thru Matthews (MARA) and always done a tremendous job.

I personally can see positive and negative spins to this. The biggest negative being the impact on Pineville and on the Charlotte posts.

I was at a showcase this weekend down at Coastal Carolina and was talking with a gentleman from Post 132 Smithfield. He mentioned that they have 3 Posts very close together (Smithfield, Garner and one other). The boundaries are such that when the 3rd team was built, the talent in all 3 became very thin.

I'm sure we'll be hearing more as things develop (IF things develop!).

Why don't we let Pineville have half of the city to draw from for its team?

It's not quite that easy with the way the boundary lines are established for Charlotte teams. Below is the link from earlier this summer where Braves had a Q&A session with Pineville Coach - Randy Rummage:

I know how legion uses yhe boundaries. My comment was to the fact that Pineville last year drew kids from alot of schools because other districts decided not to have teams. With all the talent from those schools last year, they still could not make it to the final eight. That is why I said to let them use half of the city in jest.
