He's gotten letters from UNCC, UNCW, and Lenoir-Rhyne. But today he got one from Chad Holbrook. Don't know if it's a generic letter or not, but Chad said he was looking forward to talking with him in the future, and that he'd like to have him come to a camp. Any of these schools would be great for him, but you know you can't hardly grow up in NC and not get excited about getting a letter from Chapel Hill, generic response or not.

Yes..these are exciting times for your son and your family. I would suggest that you take up Holbrook's offer to attend their camp. It will be a time that you will be able to discuss directly what their real interest is in your son. If anything, you will be able to get some great feedback about what they think of your son's ability and where he stands with their program

the only thing that matters is what they do, not what they say. I would take everything said with a grain of salt and really keep expectations "in check" until somebody says we want your guy to come and play, not come to my camp. its a long process: people change, needs change, availability changes all like a giant rubic cube. some changes work for you, others do not.

it can be a fun exciting time but the path you utimately take may not be the one you expect!

    AltWood is right....

One important thing to remember is that baseball in college is a business. And reality is that getting letters from schools versus getting phone calls mean 2 different things. The larger D1 schools and other well name baseball schools have a huge appetite for $$. Camps throughout the year bring in allot of $$ to feed that appetite and they prey on rosters of AAU teams, showcases and dreams of playing big-time!! One suggestion would be to ask around and see if others got a letter. If not, there may be a genuine interest!! Hopefully so!!

And who knows, attending all the camps you can will be a great opportunity to meet the coaching staff and you may just have what they are looking for. Be prepared though to spend a few $$.

It's a tough road to find the right combination!!

What speaks volumes about their true interest is "Baseball Money". The reality all schools offer camps and all the D1 schools do use them as an evaluation tool. But you will see shortly that you will get letters to camps from the coaches of other schools that work the camp you just went to. All of these letters that we received were filled with "We really think you can play at our level and we recruit heavily from kids who attend our camps, we look forward to seeing your there".

The best advice I can give you is to remember to focus on the education first, is the school one you would pick to go to if baseball weren't in the picture. Sit back and enjoy the journey it may go quickly for you (don't know your son, so I'll keep my comments generic) like some of the 07's committing already, and they have baseball dollars verbally committed to them by the school. Or it may take a while as schools evaluate their needs and players available. If you study school rosters before and after the Christmas break you will see players that have transfered out of schools now filling the needs of other schools, etc.

It's a journey, filled with ups and downs and many changes, enjoy it. Let your son survey the landscape and enjoy the process.

hope your son gets lots of those letters...

Now that the letters have started to come, may I make a suggestion:

Have your son get a 3 ring 1" vinyl binder and some clear protective sheet sleeves to go in the binder and start organizing the letters by college interest into sections in the binder. Not only can he keep track as time goes on of who sent him what but it is quite interesting and exciting over time to watch that binder get thicker!
Save every correspondence they send him whether camp invites, letters about seeing him play somewhere, xmas cards, personal handwritten notes, emails fron the coach, etc.... AND after he signs his NLI and the letters stop coming from schools other than where he decides to go...what a great keepsake to walk down memory lane that will become more appreciated as he gets older..not to say how it makes mom and dad proud to flip thru those pages!

blademan after reading my post I see where it might be taken negatively and I don't intend it to be that, as I stated I don't know your son. Enjoy the journey and best of luck to him. The keepsake is a great idea.
