South Meck to lose its baseball coach

South Meck to lose its baseball coach

South Mecklenburg High's Hal Bagwell, the Observer baseball coach of the year last season, has accepted the baseball coaching job at new Ardrey Kell High.
Bagwell, who couldn't be reached for comment, led the Sabres to the N.C. 4A final last spring. He's in his 10th season at South Mecklenburg, his alma mater.
Bagwell, 38, will finish this school year at South Meck, where he teaches physical education, and coaches the baseball team.
School and team sources said Bagwell informed the team of his decision Wednesday.

Dave...nobody questioned your source...just the timing. They didn't even accept applications until mid January, so when this was first mentioned, nobody, including Bagwell, knew for sure.

It's a good move for him, but leaving South Meck must have been an anguished decision for him.

But the South Meck HC position is still a gold mine. I have one coach in mind that I would like to see go there.

The domino effect in coaches position in Charlotte should be interesting.

No, I don't know. I have an opinion of some names of coaches I'd like to see go there. All would be successful at SM...but it is just an opinion not based on anything. I'm sure I will talk to Bags soon.
