Yesterday at a parents meeting, the varsity coach informed parents that the baseball field and batting cage would be off limits to any weekend use. The only way they could be utilized would be if a high school staff member was present. Of course, the coaches will not make themselves available.:thud: Meanwhile, custodians would be on the look out for unauthorized field use.:wtf23:

This follows the same edict that the players were not supposed to conduct any work outs on their own during off season as well.

This comes directly from the principal (control freak). The young "coaches" are just following orders. How would you respond?

I would go to the principal to find out why he/she made this decision. Perhaps it is an insurance thing...but the part about workouts is confusing. How can the principal control that?

    Something smells rotten

TRANSFER TO THE MOUNTAINS QUICK, LOL. I wonder what the principals adenda would be that he/she wouldn't want his players to play as much as possible to get better. I know our field and cages are open all the time. The kids even know how to turn on the lights in the cages for night hitting. I think with enough phone calls from parents that could change in a hurry.

Braves, you are so right. There are a handful of parents who are veterans of AAU ball who have been discouraged at every turn. With a coach with no experience, these parents have offered time, money, help....you name it for four years. Coach drops his head and says he has to ask the principal. People in the area scratch their heads and wonder how this team continues to underachieve. Promising young talent just withers on the vine.......

Sounds like you need to clean house...principal to the coach and AD(if you have one) for that matter. If a coach doesn't have a backbone, how is he going to be able to teach baseball and life lessons

I dunno RB...it just doesn't sound good. It's sad really!

Totally Agree. Too many high schools and even many high school baseball coaches do this. Guidelines have to be set up but the idea of players being restricted from using their own high school field is ridiculous. Most of it is coaches or administrators being micro-managing control freaks or just ignorant of the fact that players can actually get better on their own.

If it is coming from the administration and the coach can't or won't affect change, then get the parents together and go to the principal. Often, a group of parents have much more influence over administrators than a single coach or teacher.
