Time for my two cents worth.

Lenoir belongs to a college level wood bat league. Caldwell also has a Sr legion team and (2) Jr legion squads. The wood bat team is usually the local boys that are past legion age and some decent outside prospects. I have even umped a couple of games. THE level of players never impressed me that much. But, I have got to agree with the one poster that I would love to see a summer of legion ball played with wooden bats. That's the way it was when I played. If you could hit, the scouts and coaches would come and see you play. I know, because our team was the cellar dweller both years. I also agree with Braves, too many Showcase Squads will cause a saturation problem. My idea is that someoe should go with 4-5 communities near Raliegh/Fayetteville/Wilmington and also Charlotte/Asheville/ Hickory, thus having western and eastern coverage for a possible Rookie League ike they have near Johnson City, TN or Abingdon, VA. That's my two cents worth. :satana:

Legion ball is the best has been and still is Look at most of the top talent comming out of North carolina the past 5 years and see if they played Legion ball you will find that the most did. Showcase is for players that don't want to compete for a job and there mom and dads have plenty of money to send there kids off to play. For your showcase parents read the article in baseball america that came out last fall they tell the truth about showcase ball go to there web site and read it.

Here is a link to the Baseball America article. Very balanced perspective. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/features/051012youthopp.html

I'll say this: Legion is the only 'free' baseball my son has ever played. Even Little League required registration fees. I personally could not afford to drop $20,000 chasing Junior's dream to play baseball for a living. It's not right & it's definitely nuts on the adults part.

I won't argue that Showcase ball is moneyball but I do take exception to two comments:
    1) Just because there is money involved doesn't mean we are stupid. We still want value for our bucks. If we didn't get it, we would not send our kids year after year
    2) The top level showcase teams (Cubs, Impact, etc) are so far superior and tough to get invited onto than any Legion team in NC. Don't kid yourself.
