Harding played South Meck the first week of the regular season and beat them. BUT, that was without Joy Cheek on the floor. She was injured the first three weeks of the regular season.

Courage is FEAR, that said it's PRAYERS.
    AC Reynolds 58
    Harding 64

Harding started the game on a 12-0 run and ACR battled back and had the lead 44-40 heading into the 4th quarter. The score was tied 50-50 with a little over 4 minutes left and Harding hit their shots and ACR didn't, that was the difference in the game. ACR had a great year and we are proud of the girls for their effort in this game. Harding is a very good team, however if they competed in the NW4A they wouldn't have the nice record they are currently sporting!

    My two cents

First off congratulations to South and AC for going as deep as they did - great crowd last night at E.Burke. You could tell South Caldwell brought a lot of energy. Almost every NW4A coach there last night to watch - I think that says something about about the passion of basketball in this conference.

The Game - If anyone can beat South Meck I would like to see that team. I thought South C did a fairly decent job in the first half. Hawkins wont be in the stat book but she scrapped hard - she showed absolutely no fear at all. She looked like a squirell trying to wrestle a walnut from bears - I was very impressed with her heart last night. Lackey was absent in the first half and after they came out of the locker room she showed a lot of heart I thought - if it had not been for her in the second half it would have been a real blow out - she rebounded, scored and even banked in a 3. Kidd scored the first couple of buckets early and then it looked like the old Kidd from Freedom - I thought she killed them by trying to do way to much - she turned it over several times and then just walked back down the court.

Cheek is the real deal and anyone who thinks she cant play out front is crazy. She wont have to play post she is a little overweight but after one Summer at Duke she will be in good shape - she is as quick as any 3 I have seen play in college and if she meets someone quicker she will be able to post that person up - I agree if you think you will hear her name again. THat is the deepest team I have seen in 10 years. WOW!!!!!

The odd thing about these posts is, I know South Meck is very strong, but it never felt like they were all that much better than McDowell, just bigger. I don't think they played their best that night, but still it was competitive. I guess when you take Lakey out of the equation, SC is pretty limited? Anyway, Joy Cheek is one of those blessed with more physical ability than most. I was hoping to see ACR get a crack at them, but Harding is the same team that beat McDowell last year, so I guess they are for real. No reason to go watch now.

I watched them,South Meck play SC Sat. and believe me they are THAT much better than Mcdowell; and South Caldwell and Reynolds. I personally think they are the best girls team I have seen. I hate to say this but we couldn't take a nw4a All-star team and beat them. I'm glad all their girls graduate this year.

McCants vs Cheek...now that would have been an interesting matchup.

It didn't look that way last Wednesday, although I said I don't think they played their best. It was a 7 point game with 4 minutes to go, McDowell had the ball. I don't think they would have blown Reynolds out either, but we'll never know. SC strength was inside with Lakey, and that won't work.
