at a JV baseball game today, I saw a team getting up an extension cord after the game. someone said it was for a heater in dugout: not sure if it was for the warmth of the players OR I had heard that some teams like to keep their bats warm, something about the bat manufacturer recommends not to use bats at a temp. below 60 degrees F.

    ???

I've been in a dugout where someone brought a kerosene heater into the dugout. I, personally, don't like it. The players are too worried about huddling around the little heater and staying warm and not keeping their head in the game. They're worrying more about staying warm than getting on base.

Most bat companies say not to use a bat under a certain temperature because the bad can shatter easily due to the metals freezing or something like that.

Let the players deal with the weather....let's put all the "heaters" out in the stands for the Fans. :cold: :stoned2:

Now if you were keeping the coaches warm... well that's another thing :woot: .

Seriously though, if the heater were close to the bats and it were really cold, the heating and cooling of the metal (the metal would have cooled down bythe time the batter used the bat anyway) would IMHO weaken teh metal and shorten the life of the bat.

I would be concerned if it were in a small dugout like at most high schools... safety issue. That's why I wear long johns and several shirts (NO BRAVES it's not my age slowing me down...:woohoo: )

Easton bats say that the warranty is void if used in weather temperatures below 60 deg. Bats that cost upwards of $250 - $300 could stand to stay warm...... :imagestor

It's not cost effective to go with wood bats. That's why they don't use them in college.
