It seems that you see this alot.I know last yr there was a team who had a new head coach,& the girls were told soph. & fresh would be on JV.Well the soph. & fresh made varsity & were the top players on the team.It just goes to show that class means nothing. If I were a coach I would have my best 9 out there.I feel that it is only fair to the girls who practice everyday to give them their best shot at winning every game.If you have game under control, then get your other players in,& not worry bout how many runs you can score.

What about freshmen who makes varsity and never gets to see the dirt. My daughter is a freshmen, I fill she should have made varsity but did not. I would rather her play every game than ride the pine in varsity.

    jv teams

at Huss, we have two freshmen players who "bounce" between jv and varsity this year, and last year we had two freshman starters. Some of us coaches don't see the issue of senior/junior over soph/freshman. However, we are handicapped by the issue of no seniors on the jv team. We have some three year starters on the jv team that will never make varsity, but can't play in their senior year due to this local rule. The thing I find most distasteful is when a varsity starter will then start for the jv team in the second game???? Come on!!! If our freshman players play in the varsity game, they don't play in the jv game.

I understand that you have coached various teams and you put the best nine on the field. That is the only way in winning. I agree about being fair and giving underclassmen opportunities. But I think the only successful way of winning is having some definite changes in the infield regardless of who it is.

    ???

Question: You actually would have SR's that would WANT to play on JV?? Now that sounds strange. But if true, that's kids that really want to play I suppose, but again I think would be a bit rare.
The last part of your post I don't quite understand; the varsity freshmen don't play in both games, but some upperclassmen do??
Isn't there a limit to # of total games they can play in a season, maybe 23?, which includes both JV & varsity??

    23 Games per season

yes, 23 games is the limit, but in my opinion, jv is for training for the future. So the girls that bounce won't start a jv game, but may play because we want to train the other 13 girls in jv. The problem in our conference is the lack of jv teams to play against. our jv teams will only play 8 games this year in conference. As for seniors wanting to play jv, they just want to play ball and finish their 4 year highschool career on a good note as far as they're concerned. They know they're not talented enough for varsity, but solid jv players. I think it's a shame to limit seniors like this.
