    Just to Help

According to what I have been able to understand this being my first year involved in Fastpitch at the High School level. Here are a few interesting things I have found out along the way when it comes to players and how many games they can play.

First - Player is allowed to play up to 4 games (JV & V) granted that atleast one of those games is a NON-School Day FOR BOTH SCHOOLS. So a teacher's workday will fit under this as well as a Sat.

Second - If a player is placed on the lineup card then that player is considered to have played that game regardless if she actually participated in the game.

Third - (Most Controversial in MY MIND) - A player does not have to be placed on a lineup card to be entered into the game. So another words if you have a kid you might play in your Varsity game or she is there for emergency reasons. You can leave her off the lineup card and if she never goes in the game then that game does not count against her. Which still allows her 3 games in a normal week and 4 if your playing on sat. For example if you have 4 games and only two are JV/V doubleheaders and you need this girl for the JV game what you would do is let her play the 2 JV games and those would count against her but then you could actually have her dress and sit in the dugout but do not put her on the lineup card for the Varsity games and you can actually use her in whichever two games you need her.

Fourth - Being a Courtesy Runner would count because you have to report that to the UMP just like a sub. therefore she technically (even though you can use her later) is considered in the game.

HOPE THIS HELPS AND IF MY READING OF THE RULES IS WRONG WILL SOMEONE PLEASE LET ME KNOW.....

Well it appears she was right, by all the posts, so I reckon it's a good thing she's been doing it the way she has all along. Probably why she's the coach...lol

I thought that all players to be used in a game had to be on the lineup card. How do you enter an emergency player if she is not on the sub list. And why should or shouldn't a courtesy runner even be listed if they are there to speed up the game? There are several rules that conflict with others concerning this but I would like to see the rule where players for emerg. use don't have to be on lineup card. And what umps will add a player to the list during a game.

    rule book

According to the rule book you must have one at bat or play three consecutive outs, in order to legitamitly be in the game. So if a team has all jv and varsity in the dugout, and their not on the linup card, does it count as a game for them? If you can add a player thats not on the linup card why do we list subs.? As far as a courtesy runner, why does the umpire never tell the other team who is running because that is exaclty what it says, a courtesy runner.

    Just a Messanger

Trust me on this one....a player does not have to be on the lineup card to enter the game. Saw it happen in a game, went right then and there to the rule book and it plainly states a player not listed on the lineup card can not be prohibited from entering the game. I actually think the words are almost identical.

I have found out that the way the state is interurputing the participation rule is that if the player is listed on the lineup card that counts as a game for that player. This is absurd!!!! That being the case almost every school with jv and varsity teams has been illegal over the last 8 or nine years. Almost all the schools have used jv players as courtesy runners or backups just in case they were needed and had them listed on the lineup card. Even a courtesy runner has a game count against them if their name is on the lineup card. I know their are some girls out there who have reached their limit of games for the year already this year if this is the way the rule is going to be enforced. Also they have been many over the limit for games per week if they were on the jv and varsity rooster for four games in one week. This is just another example of how idiotic the people in the NCHSAA are. Also another good reason to give up on High School ball and just let them all play travel ball. Way to much ignorance in high school ball
