After hearing of this thread and article, I felt I must respond to these accusations. As a coach, I am always trying to find ways to improve my players, our game and our program. We thrive on the betterment of each team member, through evaluation. Over the course of 6-8 years, I have always videoed our home games. I view our play from every angle and the then sit down with the players and evaluate the process of the at bats and the pitching process. My hitters are graded based on their actions (swing or not) on pitches in certain locations according to count and situation. No respect given to batting averages. We chart the process on paper through the course of a game. Negative and positive points are awarded through a strict set of criteria. It is a great formula for success in the breakdown for hitters.

Video - The Huntersville sports reporter, and all those nodding in agreement, must be on a mission. I received a call from this reporter and conveyed to him what was behind that "devious" camcorder. I explained that as we do in all home games, this film was made to break down, frame by frame, after the game. Oddly enough, there was no specific quote or even generalization of the conversation we had had regarding this misunderstanding. I was only represented by his obvious malice-based, biased opinion. My intentions were portrayed as unsportsmanlike and dishonest. The Huntersville area pays his bills, not the Midland/Harrisburg community. Paper sales may be up, but the truth was not brought forward.

Getting back to the real focus. What is perceived going on in the video stand was actually the results of the at bats or pitches, not the prediction of what was about to happen. We chart results, not anything more. Our system is based solely on what CC is doing and has nothing to do with any opponents signs, pitching sequence, or play. We are not concerned with an opponents play, only the evalation of our players. WE CHART RESULTS.

Since I am on here, I would like to make several things clear. As mentioned many times before but in my words, I coach with a PASSION. I love my players and I love winning. When you mixed the two together, you find a coach and a program that lives and breathes softball. I work my players hard. I demand responsibility and dedication to the families, our team, to each other and to themselves. Our players work hard to present all that is good about softball in honoring the flag, the game of softball and being excellent off the field role models. Hey, everybody has the right to their own opinion, but the above explaination is the facts and truth surrounding this situation.
Best Wishes to all the teams and players.

Coach, you failed to address the obvious hand signals involved and why won't you identify the man filming? Is it true he is your assistant coach?

You work for a public school and everything you do is public information. Refusing to address the signaling or the individual involved isn't an option as an employee of a government entity.

    :umno:

If what you say is true, it should go to follow that the hand signals appearing in the article would be in front of the camera?

why not make that game film and several others available for viewing to see where the camera was directed (zoomed location) and how the batters reacted to the pitches to see if there is an indication they knew when to let off or move in the box. unless the films "don't exist". as a regional director of the coaches assoc. i would think that would be a great way to clear oneself. i would want knowledgable coaches to view them not those looking for a conviction. if they are just to evaluate your own team then what would be the problem with that.

maybe payne could bring the popcorn.:banginghe
    sorry couldn't resist!!!

you're good sbobserver. why not just talk into the microphone. or if he could see them why not view them when the film is being viewed. if it is a missed spot for the pitcher why should that matter, only the location of where the ball went should matter. i wonder how many change-ups were passed on because of fore knowledge of pitch. bet the pitcher was frustrated if that is the case.

Produce the film - if it was taped by an assistant coach on team owned equipment then it is public information.

    Blatant disregard for rules

Rule 3-6, Article 11 of the NCHSAA softball rulebook states that “Electronic communication devices, television monitors and/or replay equipment shall not be used for coaching purposes during the course of the game.”

Point is--rule was broken and it should be addressed.
