Lady Knights snake bit today. Coach sat out one starter, combine that with some costly miscues, and maybe a case of the holiday blahs. Ali Short gets the win.

Noticed in the Charlotte Observer yesterday, Courtney Feldon was batting .613 before tonight's game. I believe she went 1-3. Turbo had 2 hits I believe, and Little Turbo was the starter who had to sit out.

    Mid State 2A

    4/19: Graham 12 - W. Alamance 2
    4/21: Graham 11 - Northwoods 3
Good game here as Nwoods up 3-0 into the fifth. Solo HR by Graham in fifth, then 7 hits (incl. 2 more HR in 6th) for the win.

    Mid State 2-A:
    Graham 8-0
    Orange 1 loss
    Northwoods 3 losses
    The rest???

Butler and NW Cabarrus Game, 4/24/06

    Butler 1
    NW Cabarrus 0

    WP - Ashton Ward - 13 strikeouts, 2 hits

What a tremendous game, could have gone either way. Went in to the 7th inning with no score. NW Cabarrus got their first two runners on in the top of the 7th but just couldn’t capitalize after that. Good defensive play at SS by Sarah Rappe plus tough pitching got Butler out of the inning.

Constance Orr from Butler led of the bottom of the 7th with a triple. In a bold move, NW Cabarrus opted to intentionally walk the next two batters to create a force play situation at every base. Not a bad idea being that they were working on the bottom of the line-up plus the fact that a couple of slappers were coming up and the potential for ground balls. The strategy almost paid off as the number 9 batter hit a bloop to SS and then she was able to double up Orr at 3rd. With runners at 1st and 2nd and two outs, Butler inserted power hitter Blair Burnette in for leadoff slapper Jessi Polk. Burrnette hit a one-hopper to SS and she automatically went to 2nd to get the force and final out. It appeared as if she dived to the base and tagged it with both hands, ball in glove, prior to the runner reaching the base. The runner was called safe. Needless to say, the call made was extremely questionable. Butler now had the bases loaded. Sarah Rappe with two strikes on her slapped a hard grounder between 3rd and SS for the game winning hit and RBI. Game ball to Sarah!!!!

Solid defensive plays by both sides. The only downside was the horrendous call at 2nd as well as a couple of questionable calls at 1st. It’s obvious with teams of this caliber that they work very, very hard to be successful. However, it’s a shame for the girls and coaches involved that with all their efforts, they can fall victim to bad officiating. If this had been a boxing match, would be no doubts around an automatic re-match

great report on the game and Welcome Aboard!

sounds like some of our TBR Softball folks need to take up umpiring......great umps demand big money before its all said and done.

i am confident that with the caliber of players and teams now in NC, middle school, hs and travel ball.....officating will evolve too. slowly but surely! :twocents:
