I just arrived home from class and seen that the Athletic Director at Alexander Central is one of 8 coaches in NC to be nominated that will receive a Homer Thompson Memorial Eight Who Make A Difference Award. The awards are given to those who show exemplary sportsmanship throughout the high school athletics and school systems. The other seven coaches are East Bladen girls bball and softball coach Patty Evers, Robert Woodley the Pasquotank boys bball coach and AD, Brian Robinson the girls bball coach and ass. softball coach at Bishop McGuinness, South Stanly's girls softball coach David Poplin who also assists in football and bball, Ashbrook wrestling and track coach Bill Eccles, who is also football assistant for the Green Wave, B.J. Laughter, the head football coach at Hendersonville, and the former South Caldwell boys basketball coach Mike Absher now the boys coach at Davie County in Mocksville. Harper came to AC in the spring of my freshman year. He makes kids become young men and women just from one simple conversation. Any one who has met this man knows that he changes lives just with the simple things. He's a great human being and i was fortunate to be a student in the weight room under him and a player under his coaching style that most coaches only dream of having. I love him to death and I just wanted to publicly congratulate him for this another great achievement for a great man in mine and many lives.

Coach Harper is one the finest people I have ever met.I had the privledge of getting to know him while I was a student at Freedom. All the players there loved him to death and i never heard a person say one bad thing about the man.He was tought on the kids in the weight room and on the feild,But u always knew he cared about you.To this day when i see him at football games when we play ac or when we play them in basketball he always takes the time to come up and talk to me.He always tries his best to stay in touch with former players and students hes been in contact with.

there isn't enough space on this board for all the good things I would say about Tom Harper. Congrats to him for this award -- it is very well deserved. He is an A number 1 class act.

Tom Harper is a credit to his profession. He cares for the kids, yet he keeps them in line as much as you can keep kids in line. Alexander Central got a couple of breaks when they got Chris Deal to take over the football program and another when Harper arrived in Taylorsville. I give you an example of what they promote. A couple seasons ago, Olympic High School came to Taylorsville for a playoff game. They were arrogant, confrontational, and classless from the time they stepped off the bus. The game turned ugly early. To Harper and Deal's Credit, they got the kids heads screwed back on and the rest of the night was one example of Olympic shooting themselves in the foot time after time. By the way, Alexander Central won that night, their first ever 4A playoff victory. Congrats to Tom Harper, he deserves the honor.
