DCL, thanks for the correction, and btw nice talking with you again. Sometimes its hard to explain why some teams or specifically certain players get more newspaper coverage, but it does seem to be true. I guess some people's got better PR people than others.

Btw, didn't Almond make all-state last year? If so, he shouldn't be no stranger to folks. The way I look at it is if them boys keep winning (like I think they will), then sooner or later folks will figure out "they must be pretty good".

I've told many folks this spring that I was personally as impressed with that West Stanly bunch as any bunch I've seen. I would put them right up there with Ragsdale, Charlotte Christian (who WS beat) and Providence.

Yes Tyler Almond did make all State last year. This team has a good chemistry. I think if they get on a roll they could make some noise, but hey 17-2 is not too bad.

    Tyler Almond/ Kurt Benton

Tyler Almond (4-1) has a 1.28 ERA with 55 Ks in 33 innings pitched.
Kurt Benton (6-0) now has 57 strike outs in with a 1.46 ERA. Kurt has two shutouts and six complete games.
West Stanly's team’s pitching staff has been nothing short of dominant, allowing only 87 hits and 26 earned runs in 131 innings. Of those 87 hits only 15 have been extra bases. The staff ERA is 1.38 and this staff has fanned 182 batters.:woohoo:

    Fred T. Foard Pitching

With a record of 21 and 3, the pitching staff ( Lilly-sr, Rothlin-jr, King-jr, and Wyant-soph) at Foard has put up some amazing stats and is leading them to their best season in over 30 years. 162 innings, 237 K's, 90 hits, 34 total runs, 30 earned runs, ERA 1.29, with 10 shutouts. How bout them Tigers, good enough to make a Red Bear proud.

I have personally attended over 30 HS Baseball games this year and watched every inning and every play. In a game with North Meck against Hopewell I counted (7 throwing errors between both teams). There also were some regular errors (boots and drops). but the next day in the Observer I amazingly looked at the box scores that were submitted which stated their were only 4 errors in the game? This is not the only time I have seen this type of incorrect reporting. I dont know who submits these STATS but if they are as convaluted as the ones I.ve seen, I dont take too much comfort in ERAS. Also the quality of the teams these boys have pitched against should be in the overall rating system. A boy who is 6 - 0 but has just started against, what i would consider C - teams doesnt deserve the same accolades as a young man who might be 3 - 3 but has started against all A+ teams.

Very, very good point...plus the 3-3 pitcher was probably going against the ace from the other team as well. Stats are important to the player, their coach and mom and dad...but to no one else.

For hitters, the only stats that mean anything is RISP and OB%
For pitchers...Quality starts against quality teams. Sometimes the best pitcher does not win due to errors (mental mistakes too)
