    50 Games - Wow

Slapping 50 games suspension is nothing compared to the infraction. He should have been banned for the year and have to work his way back up through the minors (if he makes it).

But, I guess the precedent was set when Roberto Alomar spat in/on the umpires face on national T.V. and was slapped on the wrist....

Sure makes it difficult for parents and coaches to teach "the right thing" when incidents like these, steriods and drugs get by with a "slap on the wrist".....

I agree, 50 is not enough...

A slap on the wrist is not a deterrent for such behavior in the future. What about when it finally happens in HS or legion ball?

One would hope so; but, more often than not, the decision seems to simply rest upon talent. Sad, but true.

    bernie williams

I wonder what MLB's response will be to bernie williams flipping his batting helment at the umpire and getting tossed from the game last night after getting called out on strikes. any ideas or comments?

    bernie

i saw that this morning, totally out of character for bernie. a suspension or heavy fine is surely coming. however the difference here and the delmon young situation is bernie just flipped the helmet backwards. if you watch the umpire walks up the line, bernie doesn't look just flips the helmet. not taking up for him or anything, he was certainly in the wrong. but to me its not as serious a situation. thoughts?

I agree, but with all the fury over the delmon young thing, got a bad feeling they (MLB) may try to make an example out of bernie.

Wrong is wrong...no matter the situation...maybe we wouldn't have Delmon Young incidents if professional sports had taken action years ago...overpaid egos and rotten attitudes have made a mockery of pro sports...the younger generations have watched and learned from those that have came before them...finally glad to see sports organizations stepping up penalties...but it may be too late...as for Bernie Williams, whether or not it was intentional...throwing his helmet was wrong and he knows better...hope his fine and/or suspension is strong enough to teach him and others a lesson.

I personally don't care whether or not it was a bad call. Bernie Williams is a classy guy IMHO, but that is a classless act. He should set a better example for the young players we deal with. Many times the actions of our own players take place because of what they see the "pros" doing. But this is also a result of a society that gone amuck. Unfotunately, I don't see it being corrected in many cases.

I am just thankful for the guys I coach, I can honestly say that I love my kids.
