Providence v AC Reynolds Game Recap

With all due respect to both teams and the young women giving their all today...

Providence had 11 hits, 1 error on defense and ran themselves out of two, possibly three more runs; one in the 1st inning and two in the 7th. The Panthers left nine runners on base.

Brittany Sheats for the Panthers threw an excellent game striking out eight batters and giving up only 2 hits in five innings of work. The Panthers made a throwing error on a drop third strike in the 4th inning to allow AC Reynolds to score their first run. The second run came on a fielder's choice by the second baseman. Only one of ACR's runs was earned. It is possible the second run was earned, but I am pretty sure it was not. Freshman Leah Quant for the Panthers came in for relief in the 6th and gave up 2 hits, 1 K and no runs.

AC Reynolds played solid defense as they made the plays when they had to. They made one nice out at the plate in the 7th and another at 3rd base in the 1st. Head's up play by ACR. The Panthers' first run came in the 6th and was earned on a single to lead it off and a double to knock in the RBI. The last three runs came in the 7th inning on a lead off single, a triple to follow, another single to follow, then two more doubles and then an error which did not score a run. All earned runs. The Panthers had six hits in the seventh. ACR walked away with 2 or 3 errors. To Bombace's credit, she pitched out of three tough jams prior to the 7th with runners in scoring position. Nice job.

At the end of the game both teams joined each other on the mound for a prayer of thanks. Both teams had a lot of class and exhibited great sportsmanship. The umpires did fine, a questionable situation did arise during an at bat, not sure what that was about. Strike zone seemed consistent on both sides. Great job on both sides. Nice season ACR!

    Providence:
    Kemp 3 for 4, 1 run
    Bendig 1 for 4 2B, RBI, 1 run
    Quant 2 for 3, 2B, 2 RBI, 1 run
    Wills 1 for 4, 2B, 1 RBI,
    Porter 3 for 3
    Goode 1 for 3, 3B, 1 run

    WP: Quant 2 innings, 2H, 1 K
    Sheats started, no decision. 5 innings, 8K's, 2 H, 2 R

    Barnhardt 0 for 3, 1 run
    Gier 2 for 3
