Some big upsets today in the first round of the NCAA's:

North Carolina and the projected first pick in the upcoming MLB draft, pitcher Andrew Miller, go down to the NC State Wolpack, 9-3.

After losing 2 of 3 last weekend to VMI, No. 2 seed Winthrop falls to No. 5 Liberty in the Big South Tourney. The Eagles are running out of juice at the wrong time.

No. 6 seed UNC-Asheville takes out No. 1 seed Birmingham Southern, setting up a Winthrop-Birmingham match up. A Winthrop loss could end their chances of going to the NCAA's.

And Charlotte's season and chances of going on to the NCAA's ended today with losses to St. Louis and George Washington in the A10 Tourney. A good season for the Niners but a disappointing finish for a team that was predicted to give a black eye to everyone in their new conference.

Wow Papa..those are some upsets. No comments until after the tournament...but UNCC was a surprise. I'm with you; they were picked to dominate their conference

The Niners hit well through the lineup for most of the year, but the bats went cold at the wrong time. Congrats to freshman Aaron Bray on a tremendous year, an A10 all conference and freshman of the year selection.

in all 4 of the SEC tournament's opening round games, the lower-seeded team beat the higher-seeded team.

NCSU beats UVA 4-3 late last night. We now get a day of rest before facing the winner of UVA/FSU (who play today). We get two chances to beat the winner. Clemson beat GT 3-2 very late last night and they get a day of rest before having two chances to beat the winner of GT/Miami. Great run for both Clemson/NCSU so far who are setup very nicely for the weekend now with a day of rest and being able to use weekend starters this weekend. UVA/FSU and GT/Miami will all burn their last weekend starter today and have to go with their #4 and #5's tomorrow to try to get to Sunday.

NCSU loses the first game to FSU today and wins the second game 8-7. GT beat Clemson in the first game and those two are playing a second game (probably starting around 10:30) and the winner plays NCSU in the Championship tomorrow at 1 (I think it is on RSN).

Drew Martin had two huge stops for NCSU in the 9th inning (ironically he was brought in during the 9th for his D). Many of you know him from the On Deck days so thought I would share that.

Liberty beat Winthrop again today. Liberty was winning 9-0 or something like that and ended up only winning by two. Then LU was up 10-0 in the championship game and blew that lead and lost by like five. It friggin sucks, especially as an LU student.

    why not Gib Hobson?

wolfpac, why did State not pitch Gib Hobson today? He had 3 full days of rest (he pitched a complete game on Wed.). Maybe could have gotten 4-6 good innnings out of him.

anyway, was disappointed w/ State's performance vs. Clemson today, but it just seemed like a bad day for State.
