    State Games

The last two games tonight were cancelled due to rain. Region 3 will play region 7 at 11:00 am at Doak and the game rained out at 4:30 today will be played prior to that at Doak. All games will be five inning games in an attempt to catch back up on schedule. If Cary Academy can get their field ready they will put some games there tomorrow and all games will be 7 innings. The weather does not look good but hopefully they will get them in. Region 3 lost to region 5 Friday 8-1. Several errors hurt region 3. Region 5 played good defense and had some timely hits behind the errors. It was a pretty good game going into the fifth 3-1 before the flood gates opened with the misplayed ground balls. I thought Tyler Hanover for Region 5 was terrific in the lead off role and he played second base and SS. This kid plays the game the way its supposed to be played. He gets after it bigtime and he has some skills. Great arm , great footwork , good speed and he gets out of the box folks. He reached on a single in the first a laced cb to rf. He reached on a error. And he reached on a seed hit to third that was knocked down by Pratt Maynard on a terrific play and just beat it out for a hit. Region 5 just outplayed region 3 in this one. Both teams pitched well. The difference was region 5 made plays and region 3 did not for the most part. Region 3 had five hits and region 5 had 10 but to be honest with you three or four of them were infield ground balls that should have been played. Both teams are very talented and played hard. Good luck to both these teams the rest of the way.

    Medal Games

Regions 4,6, and 8 all finished 2-1 W-L records. Region 4 gave up 8 pool runs, Region 8 gave up 10 pool runs, and Region 6 gave up 12 pool runs so Region 4 wins the "EVEN" pool and will play Region 5, who defeated Region 7 soundly today to win the "ODD" pool, in the Gold medal game tomorrow. Region 8 will play Region 7 in the Bronze medal game.

According to previous post Region 4 lost to Region 6 & Region 8. So how does that put them with a 2-1 record and playing for the Gold?

Sorry, Region 2 should have been the one playing for the Gold yesterday.

Also, Day 1 games at Durham Bulls park were the only games played with wood bats.

    wood

Players use wood bats on day one of the State Games. The rest of the games are played with metal.
