    Gotta go for it

I don't know Madison, his family, coaches or anyone else close to him. I've watched him pitch a game and seen nothing but good anecdotes about him as a person on TBR and in the fish wrappers.

But I do know this: what he has is a gift. That gift, good Lord willing, is gonna take him far away from Caldwell County sooner or later... it's a matter of time. He's got opportunities in front of him today and years to come that 99.9% of the folks in the state and on the planet won't ever sniff.

Then again, he could get hurt tomorrow - you just don't know. So the reality is, he has an obligation to himself to take advantage of the opportunities his gift has brought to him... you only get one shot!

Speaking of shots: Go Heels and (CCS alum) DBard who will be starting tonight in the CWS! To consider all the top caliber players from NC playing tonight and others, who like MB are coming up through the system, it is really astounding and testifies to what the coaches and families across the Piedmont are doing to elevate the game!

    Well...

I have a lot of repsect for the Caldwell Legion program, but playing for the 29ers will hardly be the high point of Madison's life. He seems like a nice kid, and he's just trying to do what's best for everybody.

Like it or not, playing in showcases will get him drafted higher than pitcher a no-hitter against Taylorsville.

The fact that he's playing any legion ball at all, considering his immense talent, speaks to his character and dedication to his hometown squad.

My thing here is Carolina Man wasn't talking about Madi when he was wrote what he wrote. Look at the date of his post. I bet money thats referring to Senior Week, etc. I think alot of times people read more into posts than whats there.

No one has ever said Madi shouldn't go after his dreams or not play in this or not that. I know Post 29 would like to have him for more games but no one has questioned any decision hes made this summer. That kid is awesome on and off the field and I think he deserves everything he accomplishes.

By the way, Henderson Co and Caldwell Co for tonight has been postponed until Thursday.

I am an outsider looking in on this situation..I saw Madison pitch in middle school and havent had an opportunity since to see him..My opinion is that he should go to East Cobb, San Diego, and Cuba..I am a teacher and preach education first, but Junior Olympic team is a once in a lifetime opportunity..He appears to be a smart kid whom I am sure can keep up with his work..Post 29 being the class act that they are, must understand this and accept it..I am sure that they are hoping him the best in his future endevours..I am also certain that he will play with them as much as possible..Prayers go out to his grandma and his family..

    Post 29 on a roll

Has anyone noticed how well Caldwell is playing? There's a lot of talk about Madison, and it's warranted because he's a major pitching and hitting talent and can help this team a lot, but in the meantime, while they wait for him, the team has won 5 in a row. The pitching depth of '04 and '05 is not there this year, but this is still a pretty good staff and the hitting is coming around. When they needed to outscore an opponent, as they did Sunday at Rutherford, they did so. Give this team a chance, it's been a difficult season, but Post 29 has bounced back and given themselves a chance for a playoff run.

I noticed on www.foothillsradio.com that they're posting the Western and Eastern division standings. From what I can tell, Caldwell would still play Pineville in the first round based on the current standings, hopefully Post 29 can move up a couple more notches in the next 3 days. (If it ever stops raining!)

Hey man, I could not agree more. Its like we have discussed, it always seems that when Caldwell goes on a trip somewhere, they come back playing better. You can say its one thing or another or whatever, but the fact of the matter is when Caldwell has time to bond with eachother, they are pretty good. For the last four years people have said Caldwell peaked too early and ran out of gas going into the playoffs... I promise that can't be said this year...

Congrats to Coach Hamby and the whole coaching staff for putting a rudder on the ship. Now lets see where it goes...

P29 would probably want to play Pineville. Pville's pretty thin in starting pitching right now - cobbling together some position players to get through the schedule. The record is ok but their division doesn't seem all that competetive. They got rained out vs Kannapolis and lost a game to gaston braves in 5 innings with runners on 2 & 3... due to rain (they're supposed to play em again this afternoon). They don't seem tested like the teams in the other division so I think the guys up in the hills should pretty much rule and move on once the playoffs get started.

    Pineville Pitching

Pineville is anything but weak in starting pitching.

They have two D1 guys in the starting rotation (Jared Bard-UNC and Matt Andress-App. St) and their #3 Matt Layman-Spartanburg Meth. is very good as well. Not to mention they have Daniel Whitten who is back from Limestone College.

They may be throwing some position players right now b/c of the number of games but when they get to the playoffs their pitching will be tough.
