    Mocksville 12
    Concord 2

Concord then gets a forfeit from Montgomery County, leaving them with a record of 9-11 in Division III. Waiting on the S Rowan & Mooresville score to see who we are going to play in the first round.

Should the league let a team back in next year that has forfeited several ballgames this year???

I have a gut feeling that Mont. Co. won't be in the league again next year. They are one of those on again off again programs like Wilkes and even Chatham Co. I think they were really thin on guys the last week or so - sometimes only with nine.

It really does suck, but those places just don't have the investment in American Legion that K-town, Rowan, Lexington, Mockville etc. have. Its really a shame for the kids. I never realized when I was playing how good the players have it in places like Lexington. When I started coaching I starting noticing things like - players having to drive to games, players having to fork out cash to play, eating bag lunches etc. Its a shame, because you know those places have some talented players that really don't have a chance to experience Legion the way it should be.

Kannapolis hasnt always had it as good as it does right now. Not to say that we have Rowan County money but it has taken the work of several dedicated men who love the game of baseball to help put Legion ball back to respectability in Kannapolis. I really hate it for the kids in areas that dont support legion ball. When I was growing up, I remember going to watch Post 51 play all summer long, then was able to play on that team. Now it's even more fun to watch my son play on Post 501's team & hopefully, if he does have a son, I'll be able to watch him play also. Legion baseball is something that a family can hand down from generation to generation & I hope that it will stay in mine for a long time !!!

The only totally 'free' baseball Ty ever played was Legion. High School & College were/are tons of fun, but nothing compares to one solid month of everynight-community pride hardball. This is why travelball teams will never trump Legion ball. We did them both & there's just zero comparison.

    Area III

South 10 Run Mooresville putting South in 6th, concord 7th, and mooresville 8th. I know that the top 5 teams are very strong but you have to be weary of the way these matchups are setting. You have a streaky South team going to Lexington, where they played very well both games. You have Concord playing stanly where they beat stanly at Stanly and have finished the season 9-5 after an 0-6 start. And you have Mooresville at Ktown in a series in which Mooresville swept during the season. All Ktown players or not beating them 2 times leaves something to be said. Whether the first round provides in upsets these area playoff games are going to be exciting!

Matchups as follows. Playoffs start on saturday at higher seed.

    1 Ktown VS 8 Mooresville
    2 Stanly VS 7 Concord
    3 Lex- Dav VS 6 S. Rowan
    4 Rowan VS 5 Mocksville

Chatham County was squeezed out of legion ball with addition of new teams and proximity rules. Baseball in Chatham is alive and well. 3 players from Chatham Central (Eastern Randolph) 1 player from Jordan Matthews (Eastern Randolph) 5 players Northwood (Chapel Hill)
Chatham Co would draw from CC, JM, NW, North Moore occasionally Chapel Hill and Sanford. During the 60's and 70's and early 80's all was well. Along comes Eastern Randolph, Chapel Hill, Sanford and eventually Montgomery County Chatham was left with (2) 1-a high schools JM & CC, part of 1 (2-a) Northwood and part of 1(1a) North Moore. Needless to say pitching was thin when a legion game is 20% longer and avg 5-6 games per week. Look at he scores posted from the legion games compared to the high school games 2 months ago, run produstion is appx 40% more. We no longer needed to be the doormat of the league, competition is good but to get hammered week after week the kids had more knowledge than the adults. This summer in addition to the above 7 players CC playing Palomino in Greensboro along with the local Babe Ruth league. Jordan Matthews and Northwood are playing in the high school league in the triangle. Montgomery county is very similar to our situation and Union Pines has folded and probably should not have have started with Pinecrest (Southern Pines ) so close.
THE STRONG GET STRONGER WITH LEGION AS THE WEAK GET WEAKER.
The State Tounament of years past has always been very strong and competive top to bottom but along comes invisible money and this year a representative will only have 3 (Three) wins and will host the tournament, talk about a doormat, good luck with the pairings. Great information posted on this board, THANKS FOR ALL THAT YOU DO!!

This year's state tournament will be just as strong as in year's past. The host team is always allowed to play, whether they are any good or not. The remaining 7 teams will be among the state's best. It will be a great week of baseball for the fans.

Hopefully if I can get a place in the press box..I will give live updates. Anyone know who to get in touch with to get media access?
From the looks of the stadium...the press box is very small.

    Charlotte 262 @ Huntersville 321 6/29/06

Huntersville beat Charlotte last night 11-9. The game was protested by Charlotte due to the catcher for Huntersville not having an American Legion patch on his uniform. Huntersvlle only had nine players, not sure how this will come down from the powers that be.
