After reading about DQs in Legion baseball, I find it disturbing that a Jr. Legion team with an ineligible player was not required to forfeit their games in which the player participated. Such forfeiture would have led to this team being eliminated from the playoffs. The Jr. Legion Director for the East deemed it appropriate that the player only be removed from the team without any forfeits. Is that within his bounds to make such a call? I think it clearly goes against the rule book. The Director also assured the protester that the team in question would be harmed enough as to not advance beyond the 1st round. Wrong. They advanced, but should never have been given the opportunity. Situations like this reflect poorly on the organization, as well as the individual.

I can tell you I have spent some time reading the American Legion State as well as National rulebook few years ago and I will say that in black and white, it states the team shall forfeit all games the player participated in.

Now, I may be incorrect here, but I think the national rule book also says you participate in every game you are listed on the line-up card.

Give more information when you can get it, please. Stuff like this interests me and I think its going to be another chapter in my book... ;)

DS, I have no dog in this fight, meaning I do not have a son on a team that was excluded from the playoffs because of this, but this particular team has a storied history in my area with this age group. If the shoe were on the other foot they'd be screaming bloody murder. The coaches also do not wear uniforms, which I'm told is also a cause for forfeit. The same eastern director was witness to this , but said nothing.

NC does not follow the National rules to the letter. They also do not advance past the state level.

As far as Uniforms in area 3 & 4 uniforms are not required for coaches. They must have clothing that matches the uniform and must have AL patches on shirt worn.

Would this Jr Legion team be the same one that created a ruckus a few years ago in Babe Ruth baseball ? The incident involved a 13 year old all star who was not allowed to participate with his team because he technically lived in the protesting teams's"district." Also can you explain in a little more detail how and why this team's player was ineligible?

As for coaches in uniform, just be consider it fortunate those yokels wear shoes on the field.

The very same East. They were knocked out last night so I guess I'll soon forget about it, but it really irks me right now. I'm sure you know that this age group has had the same three "dad coaches" since these boys were 9-10 years old. You would think as these boys got older that some of this would have ceased, but I think the dads have actually gotten worse. Their high school team participated in our Easter Tournament this year. I was talking to one of the dads who quickly informed me that their ace pitcher had been clocked last summer in Florida at 86-92 through 7 complete innings. As luck would have it, there was a scout at the game in which the ace pitched. He must have had arm problems that night. He was 77-79 with his dad in the stands calling his pitches.

There was a funny story on TBR about this same thing a couple of years ago.
A Dad was watching a scouts jug gun timing his son's pitches. He was 80-82. The Dad was furious and was hollering at his son through the fence to "throw it d$%#@#$^$". Well, when the jugs gun was not in use it would always stay on 90. The next inning the scout forgot to reset the gun and it read "90". The Dad saw it and yelled to the son "way to throw it kid. That's my boy".....the scout turned off his gun:banginghe

I was at the Easter Tournament when they played Southern Nash and their fans were strictly bush. A SN fan who is also a booking, respected umpire and father finally turned around and asked their fans to please show just a bit of class.

Take consolation in the fact that a certain U12 state games team spanked them on their home field just a few years ago with the "questionable" player getting the win on the mound.

    19 Year Old Rule

Earlier in the season there was some mention about the 19 yr. old rule being changed as far as the birthday requirement goes. Any word on where that stands or is it even being looked at. IMO as long as a kid doesn't turn 20 before the National Championship is over let him play.:229031_ha
