WP Bumgarner who pitched a shutout through 7 innings. Derrick Coffey came in relief in the 8th inning and gave up 1 run and was relieved by Brian Chandler who finished up the game. By my account that makes 27 innings pitched by Madison so far this legion year and has not given up an earned run as of yet. I could be wrong but I remember the lone run scored with Madison pitching occurred after an error at 2nd base in the Shelby series.

Obviously Madison would have pitched many more innings with the 29ers but he missed the first half of the season in South Caldwell's run to the 4A State championship series and also attended several showcase type tournaments this summer. He is also scheduled to go to San Diego during August but I believe that is after the State Championship tournament.

seemed like the 29ers were a little slugest, maybe because of the rain delay ? sat on the Caldwell side and thought they were top notch also

Tough loss to Gaston in game 3. Berry pitched well and was one pitch away from getting out of a jam. Score 9-6. Back to Caldwell tomorrow.

Caldwell wraps up the series with Gaston 3 games to 1 with a 12-4 win tonight in Granite Falls. Jimmy Messer wins his 2nd game of the series and pitched very well. Brian Chandler came on in relief around the 6th or 7th inning and Andrew Berry shutdown the side for the last 2 innings.

I'm really happy that Andrew Berry has gotten a chance and responded very well on the hill. What a great kid!:satana:

By the way, what has happened to Matt Gragg? Is he hurt? Does he pitch anymore?

Matt still pitches... he put out the fire in game three and gave Post 29 an oppertunity to get back in that game. Hes pitched approx 30 innings or so.

As for Andrew, you could not be more correct. Legion baseball is all about finding ways to get talented athletes oppertunties to play. Who knew he could pitch like that?? Great find by the 29er coaching staff.

Diamonds in the rough like Berry and Brian Chandler might be what puts rings on the fingers of Caldwell Post 29.

Minor drawback, I am in the midst of a eight-game homestand here with the Crawdads. So I am out until Sunday. But let me promise ya Braves, I know where alot of the TBR faithful sit and you can go introduce yourself. Let me also advise you that the BBQ Sandwiches at the concessions are awesome.

Other than that, sit back and enjoy some baseball. I am personally of the opinion now that the Area Semis mean more than the Area Finals. We have won Area IV two years straight and the teams we faced in the big dance were pretty stout.

No matter what though, its going to be good baseball all-around. I know everyone has their superstars, but it always seems Caldwell figures out every year that they play for the name on the chest. This year more than ever I am just in awe of the Caldwell work ethic. These kids have worked insanely hard to come back and make it into the playoffs after starting 1-8, much less eliminate old foe Shelby and the pretty dern good Gaston Braves team to get back to the State Tourney.

Hey Braves....don't get swayed so easy....I'm importing some "nanner pudding" from TJ's KTown boys to keep in the dugout for between inning snacks.:229031_ha
