I heard that Collins is now an assistant principal, and no longer the AD.

It's about dadgum time: But I do have an opinion. I'm sure the new coach is a good one, but there were many, many qualified coaches in Charlotte, across the State and outside NC with connections to this area. So, why go all the way to Texas?

I'm sure there is a reason, but nothing comes to mind. Baseball, football and basketball coaches at SM have been replaced this year and all of the new guys are from out of state...what gives? Do they feel there are not quality coaches in this area? I dunno...I'm just puzzled I guess.

I'm going to touch on a sore subject. What many people outside of Charlotte don't know and these new incoming coaches have no knowledge of is the loose "transferring rules" in Charlotte. Nobody will know the new coaches, so I believe I am already hearing the moving trucks backing up in people's driveway in and around SM...or in some cases, 2nd houses are being rented.

It's a shame and it didn't have to be this way.

Having said all of this, I do wish the new baseball coach well. I just hope there is not a mad exodus to other programs

South Mecklenburg High hired Chad Jurecka as baseball coach and football assistant.

Jurecka, 36, has coached football, baseball and golf 13 years in Texas. He most recently was at Stony Point High in Round Rock, Texas.

"I don't know a lot about the area, but through asking I found there a couple schools that had good programs, and South Mecklenburg was one of them," Jurecka said. "It seems like a good fit. The key to the transition will be evaluating the kids."

Jurecka replaces Hal Bagwell, who resigned to become baseball coach at Ardrey Kell. Jurecka also will be defensive coordinator for the football team, which will begin practice July 31.

His last position was golf coach. Who knows about his baseball background? Going to be very diificult for him to run an off season baseball program as the def coordinator for football. What are they thinking?

I feel bad for those South Meck boys. You are right Dogwood, the off-season is key to development. With this new coach a football assistant he will have little time to watch workouts, etc... Most of you know I am not a Hal fan when it came to actually teaching or correcting, but the one thing I did admire amount the man, he loved the game, most of his players, and his program.

I will continue to say that Collins missed the boat in Randy Rummage, this man already teaches at SM and knows these boys strengths and weaknesses. He doesn't do it for the money, he does it because he loves the game also.

Shame on Dave Collins and Mrs. Yates for letting this happen. There should be an outrage on the parents part.

I hope i am wrong and the new coach is great, but from years of experience, coaches who are duel coaches, only do it for the extra paychecks. And most do not know how to teach the game.

Dbacks, wow doesn't even begin to say enough. This guy is not even listed as a baseball coach on the Stony Point website. He was their golf coach for boys and girls. Funny thing, the head baseball coach's last name is COLLINS, wonder if their is any relation?????????????:umno:

The community should be outraged that a coach was hired with no experience, and several local coaches with great credentials were passed by.

    WOW and WOW

    Honker,

I'm not going to comment about the new coach because I obviously know nothing about him as none of us do...I do wish him well.

What bugs me is that South Meck has had a strong baseball program and tradition for several years now and it "appears" the powers to be at South Meck has little respect for that tradition.

There were plenty of qualified candidates right here in Charlotte with one very obvious one right in front of them.

I wish Coach Jurecka well and hope he continues to build the program, I'm just dissapointed that someone local didn't get the chance that they deserved.:twocents:
