    NC Flames 2 Ray's Cards 1 Other results/comments

The best I could tell both teams played the "A" rosters. Cards throwing MM and Flames Lisa White with relief help from Washington, NC's Charity Watson. Nice win for the Flames. Cards had beaten a good VA Legend's team earlier on Saturday . . . F Sutton throwing for the Cards. Cards played their games @ 40 feet. Most others were playing 43'. I saw the Curve whip the Richmond Ruckus 4-0.

Saw a lot of ball today. The "spin pitchers" are having tough time adjusting to 43', particularly girls under 5'6". Rude awakening for some HS phenoms! Power pitchers look much better. Some of these pitchers should learn to "throw it down and hard and keep it in the yard!"

Big L Blues were no shows . . . heard pitching distance objections and taking care of injuries prior to nationals.

Lots of college coaches in attendance. Those I saw included St Andrews, Pfieffer, UNC, UNC-W, NCSU, WCU, JMU, Elon, ECU (a rare appearance), Lenoir-Rhyne, UNCG, UNC-Pembroke, Mars Hill, Norfolk State, NCA&T, Va Tech, Longwood, Catawba, UNC-C, Greensboro College.

Spoke to several. Most are lamenting the trend toward earlier and earlier commitments. One coach was packing tomorrow for the ASA 16U nationals in Seattle!

    Spin vs. Speed

Dukedog4....Not sure about your spin vs. power statement. I saw a very good "Spin" pitcher with McHone's Cardinals beat the NC Flames on Sunday 3-1. FYI...the Cardinals were pitching from 43 feet and the Flames from 40. :twocents:

Speaking of Charity Watson: Does she play full time with the 18U Lookouts? I know she is a freshman (rising sophmore) and was wondering what the status of her travel team will be for the next couple of years. I would like to see her and the kid from the NC Dominators Gold team pitch on the same team for a couple of years...that would be something to see.

    40 vs 43/ ASA Gold

Didn't see this game so I can't comment. I will say that I had conversations with a number of college coaches who were also in Boulder earlier in the year. Agreed with this assessment. In general, they are looking for bigger girls who can bring it @ 62+ (a real 62 not the one so many daddy's clock on thier own guns!). Of course they also have to be able to hit spots and have at least one good breaking pitch.

All 18U tournaments need to move to 43' and stay there. Forget HS ball. It was very confusing at the creek this weekend. Its also a safety issue having girls throw from 43' with the 40' rubbers still in place. I know ASA "A" is still @ 40 . . . another screwy deal. This raises the question why the NC teams don't get qualified for ASA Gold. Much rather play in Oklahoma City than Owensboro, KY! It's tough to brag about talent until our teams start doing this. Teams from VA and GA are there. Why not the Cards, Blues, Flames or Challengers!
