I just would like to recognize an individual that has run the High School fall Baseball program in the Asheville area for a number of years. Some of you probably know Bill Stewart. Several of my buddies and I were recently discussing the success of this program over the years. Bill has put baseball on the map in this area with all of his hard work. Last year we had over 30 college scouts to attend various games giving the kids much needed exposure. Do readers of this board have high school fall leagues outside of Asheville that have been successful getting kids exposure to College teams. Except for this area, I have heard little about fall leagues in other NC towns. Asheville fall league is not affiliated with AAU or USSSA.

Leave it to Moe to always be so, well, you know....:imagestor

Bill Stewart HAS done a great job in WNC with the Fall Ball program (which is starting up next weekend -:woot: ). He's always at the games, helping in any way required (can even fix wood bats - to a certain point :229031_ha ).

Thank you, Bill - for ALL you do for our WNC baseball players. It's helping get more of our boys noticed!!!

    Let's Play Ball!

Fall baseball is popular all over N.C., although AAU teams are cutting into the traditional leagues.

    Thanks

Bill wanted me to say thanks for the kind words. He has put in countless hours over the last 16 years of WNC Fall Ball. Neither of our boys play in the league anymore as Ryan has finished playing ball at UNCA and Eric will be going to Mars Hill to play ball after 2 years at Blue Ridge.

Bill does it because he loves it. He loves to help kids. If a Cameron Maybin comes through the program...he played every fall... it puts a huge smile on his face, but he is also tickled when a kid plays a year or two of T-ball, and remembers it for the rest of his life, or at least remembers running to the concession stand to get a soda after the game!

He would also like to say he could not run the program without the board of directors and the many volunteers it takes to run a program of this size. We will use the 3 fields at East Asheville, 1 sr league field at Oakley, 4 fields at Kisiah, as well as the Valley Springs field for the 13 HS teams! Actually we will have some dates at Blue Ridge, UNCA and Mars Hill fields for the HS age teams as well.

While we as a league have a relationship with quite a few college coaches, players in the HS league need to get their schedule and write letters to the schools he is interested in. Fall is a good time for many coaches to come see you play, as their schedule is not as demanding, and then they will have another opportunity to watch you play during the school season.

Let me add my thanks to Bill for all his hard work and dedication. We have an excellent fall program primarily because of his love for the game.

    Many Thanks and Go Mets!

WNC Baseball may have been on the map before Fall Baseball, but Bill Stewart has certainly made sure it STAYED on the map! He and Jack (and several others) run a first class program. The number of teams involved seems to grow each year as does the number of college scouts hanging around each night. Thanks for your hard work and efforts in providing a well organized program for our kids to play in. There have been some great quality wooden-bat baseball games played in past years and I'm sure many more will be played in the future. Thanks again, Bill!

    Ditto

Ditto the kudos to Jack Tarlton too - and as Roy Hobbs said, to all the others who work year in and year out to offer a program for the boys to play quality baseball. You all do a fine job!

PS - congrats to Eric for continuing his baseball career at Mars Hill - he's a fine young man - my son enjoyed playing with, and getting to know, him.
