    Cabarrus Guys

I am a new member but i have really enjoyed reading some of these forums. I remember quite a few players in 99-01 from cabarrus that were very good high school players. I am sure some of you guys can talk more about them. I had a nephew that played with several of them. Jason Sarvis Jamie Russ, Robert Scott, Bryant Parnell, Jaime Tucker, Bryan York, Thomas Wilson, Matt Baker. I followed the Concord Legion in those days and these guys could really play. They had a heck of a lineup! Does anyone know what and how they are doing these days? Can you guys from Cabarrus elaborate on some of their stats and what they are doing now?

    Goose

The pro scouts relay that his "tools" are good, but not "great". Most of their conclusions are visual opinion. Goose has been highly productive at any level he's participated. I would bet that some MLB team utilizing some version of Sabermetrics (http://www-math.bgsu.edu/~albert/papers/saber.html) will scoop him up next year. Great kid, loves baseball, outstanding work ethic, plays through pain. Whoever gives him a decent shot is likely to be very pleasantly suprised.

    2000 players

Matt Ellington Northern Vance HS - UNC
Player of the year all four years in HS in his conference. I think he still holds the state record for doubles. Matt was an outstanding hitter in HS and went on to have a nice career at UNC. Not many people know it but he was outstanding on the hill in HS as well with a mid to upper 80's fb and some nice off speed stuff as well. A fierce competitor that just showed up to play every day and would do anything he could to help his team win. Signed a free agent contract last year.

Matt Harrison South Granville HS - Drafted by Atlanta. Matt was a dominating force on the hill for us. At 6-4 and LH Matt was drafted by Atlanta and has moved to double AA this year. He is currently ranked the #8 prospect in the Atlanta minor league system. I was recently told that he is on track to get a call up for a start sometime in September. He has been lights out all year. Matt was a late bloomer. Upper 70's as a freshman in HS low to mid 80's as a soph and mid to upper 80's as a jr. His sr year he was upper 80's to low 90's. A great young man that still comes by in the off season to throw bp to the hs guys and works with me on the field.

Josh Dowdy Wakefield HS - ECU Josh put up some great numbers in HS. The thing that impressed me the most about him is his will to win. This guys wants the ball and will battle you. I look for him to have a nice run at ECU.

Andrew Taylor Wake Forest Rolesvill HS - NC State Andrew is LH pitcher that did not have a great era or win loss record in HS but alot of that had to do with the quality of the competition that he pitched against and the quality of the defense behind him in HS. He will play a major role for NC State on the hill in the coming years.

I actaully talked with Robert Scott on here, he is a member. He filled me on some of his stats from high school. He remembers all of them as im sure most high school baseball players do. If anyone would like to talk with him post and im sure he will respond on here or PM.
    Mt. Pleasant High School
    ALL Conference 3 years
Rocky River Player of the Year senior year
    All State 2000
Back to Back Conference and Tournament Champions 99-2000
    Soph - .475
    Junior - .485
    Stats Senior Year
    .636 Batting Avg.
    11 Homeruns
    48 RBI

    12-2 as a pitcher
    over 130k's

Parnell hit right over .500 and was the 2nd highest in the conference in 2000. Scott, Parnell, Tucker, York from concord legion went on to play at Pfeiffer together were they were back to back champions as well. These are great guys and have great families. Anytime you can talk with any of these guys it is a pleasure. Good luck to these guys in the future with anything they do!

I can do field that one for you.

Fairweather is Alex Fairweather. 6'0 Lefty that played at West Caldwell and for Post 29. He threw a 7 inning perfect game in Legion two years ago. Had some unbelieveable ERA in his final year in Legion. His brother Matt owns the wins record at Catawba college, but I think hes just keeping it warm for Alex to take.

York is Brandon York. 6'1 righthanded hitting machine for West Wilkes and Post 29. Has the highest single season batting average since the turn of the century for Post 29 around .45something. I think he redshirted at Cambell this year and is studying Law.

Reid is Russell Reid. 6'3 righthanded pitching machine that owns about every Post 29 career pitching stat there is. If there was a huge game for South Caldwell or Post 29 in this century, Russell pitched it. He is currently at Erskine College and I think he took their single season wins record last year as a Sophomore.

Ray is Jamie Ray. All I remember is he was like the hardest out in the history of the Caldwell/Shelby rivalry. I want to say he played CF for Shelby Post 82. The year Shelby finished runnerup in the SE Regional, he hit a walkoff HR in game seven of the Area Semis to eliminate Caldwell in one of the best series I have ever been a part of.

Drewery is Josh Drewery. I know he is a great hitter and phenominal pitcher for Shelby Post 82. Maybe some of our Shelby-ites can fill in that one too.

Just to add to the star track... and all their stats will be on caldwellbaseball.com when I reopen it. ;)

Josh Bentley was the red-headed do everything CF for Post 29 and South Caldwell for about 4 years. He is currently at UNC-Pembroke.

Alan Beck was the amazing powerhitter for Post 29 and South Caldwell 98-99 and is the only player I have ever seen hit a baseball out of MS Deal's right field line... oppo. He is currently the head man for the Hi-Toms wooden bat league team. He played in the Baltimore organization for a year or two before he broke about every bone in his wrist and put his career on the shelf.
