Wood bats, wood bats and wood bats. Did I mention wood bats? Also, I'd like to see catchers call their own games.....in HS and college.

I agree, it would be nice to see wood bats used exclusively, and catchers calling the games. Are we saying make a rule banning metal bats, and a rule banning calls from the dugout? This topic is "If you could choose one rule..."

    in softball

in NC HS softball, I have seen teams allow a parent to call pitches sitting on a bucket at the front edge of the dugout. To me , that is bush league & totally out of place. This probably does not happen in HS baseball.

    OK

I think just by the nature of the game of baseball, taunting is not a problem in baseball.

I hate to see taunting in football but it is widespread especially in college & pro's. Sometime check out an old classics game from the 70's/80's on ESPN and it is so classy to see a great hit/ tackle that knocks the fool out of someone, then the player that provided the hard hit just gets up and quitely returns to the huddle. you just don't see that much now in today's athlete.

Mark Gastineau should have been tarred and feathered....but the media plays a huge part in glorifying the "look at me" attitudes that are prevalent in football and basketball.

But baseball has their own warts as well. I have seen young (13-14 yo] get plunked by a pitcher then act like he wants to charge the mound...geez..at that age, all the pitcher is trying to do is throw strikes. I've notice some hitters admiring their HR in the batter's box...even in HS. They get all of this from Sportscenter.

and a special shout out to Dusty Snow...my son did not intentionally hit you the 1st time...but the 3rd time.....I'm not sure :D

UK, my point was only to show the relative size of Ky. vs. NC. Unless my facts are wrong, NC is going to a 64 team field for each classification. I think it will require one more week of play. The guidelines for conference participation is (half + 1), with odd numbers rounded down. Eight team conference gets 5, or 1/2(8) + 1. Seven team conference gets 4, or 1/2(6) + 1. Please do not crawl back to the hills(LOL). Oh, and this past season, the fields were only 32 teams. Our conference got 2, plus two others earned wild cards. Even with that we all lost in the first round.
