I know our up and coming players from Cabarrus, Mecklenburg and other areas play fall ball.
    Let's hear how they're doing......

    Why the Difference in Seasons?

    Just curious......
Why do some counties play MS ball in the fall, while others play in the spring?
It would seem logical that ALL middle schools would play in the spring just as the high schools do. I would think that you would run out of daylight playing in the fall as you get deeper into the season....unless you have lights at your field, but I haven't seen many of those at middle school fields. What is the logic behind the choice of seasons?

    Fal or Spring

Not sure why the split season, but most games start at 4pm and lighting is not an issue.

    Field Availability

Some middle schools only have one field and must share it with baseball. While some use their high school field because its easier and cheaper to maintain one field. Yes, they could alternate schedules but practice time would still be an issue on non game days.

    Field Dimensions?

Do middle schools softballers really play on high school baseball fields? The dimensions are TOTALLY different, not to mention the mounds.........this response doesn't make sense to me.

Also, it would seem appropriate that all middle school seasons would sync up with the high school season, which is obviously in the spring.

Brings me to my next question: I guess it's probably hard to have a TB team that has kids with different middle school seasons. But, how do the older teams do it with the girls playing varsity? It would appear to me that you would get a VERY late start to the TB season. The high school state championships go until late May/early June, right? How does this work? Does it cause problems?

not around here...gaston, catawba, rutherford, cleveland and lincoln counties, either their own field or hs school fields(one reason NOT to play MS Ball during the spring) while some use community sb fields).

difficult from time to time arranging practices and the such and you are correct mid-June startup for most 16u/18u teams. Not a problem at all starting this time of the year.......college coaches are free and players are ready(25 plus games under there belts).

i love fall middle school ball....more opportunities for us to see All Levels of play and see their improvements gained from their TB teams. plus the weather is great!!:twocents:

I just know in Gaston County, as far as I know all the middle schools have only one ballfield or none at all. With that in mind, softball and baseball can't practice at the same time.

And yes, there are baseball mounds out on the field while the girls play softball...I do think that SOME take them up during the fall for softball though.
