    We are so fortunate to have you as a long time member of our board and I appreciate the thread where you explained what life is like for a MLB scout.

    With so many new members would you mind visiting this subject again? Also, a lot of misinformation is posted here (I'm probably the most guilty); would you address any area that has been posted that you wish to clarify, rectify or crucify:)...seriously, your comments are always welcomed and helpful.

    Also, I watched the feature on Josh Hamilton on HBO. Is he still doing well? Is he still in your organization?

    And how is MlbScout Jr. doing?

    I'm always interested in keeping up with the board and will do my best to answer any questions that I can. Of course, if I shared some information with you, I'd have to kill you. LOL Josh Hamilton is still with us. He recently had his knee scoped and should be ready to continue his comeback soon. He has made great strides in his life outside of baseball. Thanks for asking about JR. He had a pretty good season and had to battle a few injuries himself. He managed to hit .317 this year and looks forward to the future.

    To all our members:

    I hope you guys/gals take advantage of having MlbScout as a member. He is the perfect person to ask any questions one has about the ML process. From how they select whom to draft to the ultimate decison for a HS kid that is drafted: To go or stay in school?

    MlbScout;
    A friend of mine's son, a local rising senior in a HS, recently went to a MLB club tryout. Reportedly he was one of a handful of high school players there, mostly college & ex-college. The boy ran, worked out at catcher, and took bp for the scout and was asked to hang around and catch bullpens from mostly college or ex-college pitchers. According to the boys mom, based on a comment the scout made when he heard the boys name, the scout knew what high school the boy played for. After the bullpens were over, the scout took the boy aside briefly, one of only two or three at the tryout that the scout had any extended discussion with, thanked him for coming and said that he liked his game and was going to come and watch him play this spring. Being in the profession, what would you make of this? Is there passing interest, genuine interest, or just courtesy?

    Without knowing the scout or the situation, I would have a hard time making a call on that. Most scouts will try to give some words of encouragement to all participants at a tryout, especially if is an invitation only affair. The fact that he was only one of a few he spent time with should be a positive sign. If the scout said he would try to see him in the spring, he must have seen something he liked. I'm sure he will make an effort to see him play. Players need to remember....it only takes one scout to like you in order to make something happen!

    Josh ended his season at Hudson Valley early due to a knee scope. Erik had a very good year there and was invited to the fall instructional program.

    MlbScout:- what is your personal preference, a raw, talented HS player or a more polished college player?
