"All things being equal", the HS player simply has more time to develop his skills. Additionally, the organization gets more time to train the player in the way they want him to be trained.

MlbScout - we know "raw talent" is what draws a scout to come out and see a High School player but what are some of the other "Key Factors" that would have you recommend or not recommend a High School player for the draft?

Thanks for responding to our questions.

The players MAKEUP. This encompasses many areas, but the key one for me is maturity......both physical and emotional. Is the player "really confident" that he will make it to the big leagues? If not, he should go to college. The HS player has to be "tough enough" to deal with the failures he will encounter in pro ball as well as the superior competition he will face. If a player is not physically ready for pro ball, his lack of success may severely diminish his confidence. Not many HS players are REALLY ready for pro ball. However, those who are, and truly believe they have a legitimate shot at the big leagues, should get started in pro ball as soon as they can. As good as college baseball is, and there are many programs where kids can go and get better, I still feel a player's best chance to improve and reach his potential is by getting started in pro ball as soon as possible.
