Get a life! don't you have something better to do besides cause problems on TBR? Like find a new job, teacher, church or new car ? Positive posting only! stop taking stabs at people and their children.:agreed:

    no offense here

F-PITCH: I meant no offense; sorry that I may have been misinterpreted. I have just always felt that loyalty and steadfastness to your situation builds character rather than constantly jumping from one "situation" to another. No stabbing was intended. Just my opinion.

But I do agree that loyalty is much less a virtue today than in past years.

    Its a "Western Carolina" thing

East> As you can see softball in the west is a "high stakes" game; especially when it comes to CC. I don't think those of us in the east quiet get it. We certainly envy the quality of the competition and the commitment to the game. I'm amazed that middle school softball warrants posting scores on the internet! Also amazed that people label 8th graders as "can't miss" college prospects. My DD's HS team played @ N Davidson her senior year. There were 6 "coaches" in the ND dugout. We had one coach and a scorekeeper....again I envy the commitment.

What I don't envy is mentality that causes girls to transfer from HS to HS for a "better program" especially when most of these girls are already in fine schools with good programs to begin with. While not "illegal" it does undermine the community aspects of high school athletics. I'm just not sure what the logic is. HS ball has virtually no influence on college prospects. Oh sure, you MIGHT or MIGHT NOT (see CC in '06) be more likely to get to Walnut Creek but, when all is said and done that isn't really that big of a deal. . . . . just another softball weekend for travel ball girls. Seems like it might be more fun to play school ball with girls you grew up with and be the star in your real hometown team. OK, so the right fielder can't catch a fly ball . . . is that really that big of a deal? . . . especially if you've been to every birthday party she's had since she was four?

I know that transfers for athletic purposes occur in every sport and every locality but that doesn't make it right anymore than did the fact lots of major league hitters used 'roids in '90's justified that practice. Like 'roid use, these are personal decisions that are/were within the 'rules of the game'. In my opinion, though, both send the wrong message about the importance of winning in athletics and both undermine the spirit of fair competition. I know the parents who condone/encourage/arrange these transfers firmly beleive they are doing what's best for their child. I do, like east of raleigh, question the message this practice sends to these children and the community.

    Makes sense

Makes sense, especially since the 'big city' paper probably doesn't post scores. No criticism of it at all. Again, I was citing it as evidence of commitment to the game which I do truly admire.

Dukedog- I really do understand your points. And they are points well taken.

I believe with the advent of travel ball, the part of going to school with the neighborhood friends is not as a big a deal. Most of their friends are the one's they play with all summer and fall. The experiences are somewhat different in Charlotte vs Kings Mountain, per se. Many of the neighborhood kids in Charlotte are farmed out all over the different schools...in some cases a person across the street is targeted for another school...it's insane!

A couple of things I have learned from reading TBR softball the last 5 years is this:

    - The Softball community is very passionate and pro active about ensuring their girls get proper training
    - In general, the HS coaching level is not on par with the training and exposure they received from their summer teams.

This is not an indictment of all of the HS coaches. There are many good ones..Dawgfan being one of them. But from the information I have read on here, that is not the case at many schools.

Also, I may be wrong, but I don't think there is an avalanche of players going from school to school each year looking for a "home". I also believe there are players attracted to a particular "program(s)"...just like in other sports and they would like to be involved with those programs if at all possible.

I was talking to a well respected public HS girls basketball coach. I asked him if he was concerned about losing successful players to the private school. He said " No...we have a great program. The girls want to come here". I bet the same holds true in softball as well.

Reading all the "Bellyaching"about CC is nauseating to say the least.
You may be interested in knowing CC JV'S were 24-0 this past season:

    yes

yes I am thinking about the "community" aspect of HS sports; it's about putting together the best team you can from the girls in that geographic boundary, the best of the girls that grew up together playing t-ball, then local rec ball, & middle sch ball. yes , many separate and go on to TB teams with no boundaries and that's fine. But then back to the "community" HS team.
Occasionally you're going to have legit transfers for parents changing jobs, new careers, etc. But to deliberately "figure out" a way to set up a transfer because of a desire just to play elsewhere; then that's the point that does seem to undermine the community aspects of high school sports. & I believe sends a wrong "life" message to kids. JMHO

curious: do the kids that transfer in like this really feel "welcome" in a different environment? If so, they must really have thick tough skin!!
also you know parents are usually pretty close about who's playing. (woops, I saw that girl playing for _________ HS last year!).

Hey, Don't Let A Game Separate Friendship

I've been reading this post for several days, and it has its valid points, but I know all participates believe they are right in what they are saying..but I remember what an individual said a few months ago it's about the kids not the adults..so lets change the subject and go on with other issues...you know what I've learned in the past few months this aint my job or my living, it's suppose to be a game, and a tool for learning to teach young girls how to be leaders and work together as a team...hey ,I'm as guilty as the next person in stating my opinion on an issue , but in the end it always lights a fire under someone. The Guru is going to try ,and I said try to stay away from controversial issues and let the girls work it out...IT'S THEIR GAME !!!!!! :twocents:
