    UNC Homer

Jeff May had one heck of a tournament this weekend. Not only did he get a homerun in the morning game (at UNC) with the 18's, but he continued to crush the ball with the Dirtbags. He had at least 2 doubles and several other hits. Also good to see that O'Berry got a couple of hits.
On another note, this is why kids play in these tournaments. If you have a tournament like Jeff did at a major college, you will get some attention from scouts.

    Shuey

Ive seen this big boy a few times this summer and fall. You know alot of times you see kids this size and you think they are just big swingers at the plate or dont have alot of bat speed and can only hit average pitching. This kid can hit! Ive seen him jump on velocity and this weekend I saw him mash a cb after being gassed outside. I really like his approach at the plate. He really zones in. South Charlotte is extremely well coached. They play the game hard and they are fundementally sound.

It's great to see the positive comments about Preston. I have known Preston since my son joined the South Charlotte Panthers and he is probably one of the most overlooked players on the team. Preston can swing a bat with the best of them and is very agile for his size. He also plays a mean 1st base. I look for big things to happen at the next level for Preston!

    Woodley Impressive

For those of you who were not at the game I thought I would just mention this. Zach Woodley 07 RHP Northern Nash HS was outstanding against the very tough South Charlotte Panthers Saturday at UNC. He went four innings and was very impressive. His fastball had lots of life on it and he painted. He kept the hitters off balance mixing in a very good cb and change up. This kid is really good. Im not sure on the velocity but it looked to be in the mid to upper 80's range. Probaly around 85-87 I would guess. Maybe someone there had a gun on him or saw one of the scouts guns I would be interested in knowing for sure. Anyway he was outstanding. Northern Nash is going to be realllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly good this year!!!!!

    Its alot of fun!

One of the things I enjoy the most about going to these showcase events and tournements is getting to see all the outstanding players from around the state. Just this weekend I got to see the On Deck O's , South Charlotte Panthers, Charlotte Heat , The Hurricanes and of course the Dirtbags 18's and the Dirtbags. I saw the Pro Level team out of Charlston SC and the Mid Atlantic Red Sox who are from Penn to NJ. You hear about kids all the time but its great to be able to actually see them play and play against quality competition. I have to say that from what I have seen all summer long and into the fall the Western part of our state is much deeper in talent. I am in no way saying that there is not a ton of talent in the eastern part of NC. They obviously have talent they continue to win state titles. But if you gauge it on the sheer number of talented players the west is loaded. I would encourage those that follow HS baseball in NC to get out and go see some baseball over the summer and fall wether you have a son playing or not. It will allow you to have a much wider view of the players in our state not just you one area. JMO

Coach 27- Indeed Zach Woodley pitched very well! I believe I captured him on film. I apologize for the angle of the shot, those of you familiar with UNC know that the only photographer friendly area on the field is at the picnic area opposite 1st base.

Coach I am not gonna say that I disagree with you but I would like to offer my opinion.

I think that more kids in the western part of the state are seen and known about b/c of the travel leagues and teams. Very few travel teams/leagues exist in the eastern part of the state b/c of population. If you look at the travel leagues where kids are playing year round most teams are from the central to western part of the state. So it would only seem that the west is deeper in talent, when in fact if it were broken down per capita the talent across the state would probably be about the same.
