well only having seen ac reynolds play against us.. i cant speak on watauga.. but they both are great teams without a doubt... but i believe reynolds will end up winning.. although a watauga win is not a long shot.. im just saying after seeing how good reynolds is.. they look like a team that could play for another state title.. but good luck to both. and i should also say congrats on the season you are already having up there in boone.. yall have done a wonderful job.

A Watauga win would be equal to the 1980 US Olympic Hockey Team's win over the Soviet Union. Watauga is having a great year, but it's over this Friday in Asheville.

    Beason and Breitenstein

Eric truly has done it all so far this year. But Friday night Blake Beason the Pioneers junior QB was 5-10 for 87 yards and one TD and also ran for two more, which one was from 49 yards out. That is exactly what WHS needed, someone to become another threat other than EB. If one or two others step up it will make WHS much harder to prepare for. As good as EB is on the field, he is equal or maybe better off the field. Just a great kid and truly a breath of fresh air in today's society. But don't be fooled, that breath of fresh air will also knock the boogers out of your nose on defense. Not sure if WHS is quite on ACR's level yet, but it should be fun watching these two classy programs get it on next Friday. Good luck to both teams.

I don't have a dog in the fight, but I think the team that has seen the best talent and been battle tested always has a leg up in this kind of game.

So which one has seen the best talent and been pushed to make plays vs quality teams the most?

AC Reynolds = Soviet Union - PLEASE!!!!! I want you to know you just equated AC Reynolds as good as a team that could beat any Div I College team (Ohio State even) . Prior to loosing that game against USA the Soviet Union beat (and badly) the NHL All-star team.

This is very do-able for the Pioneers - I think if it were at Boone you could make it a toss-up. With a little magic we could see not only a very good game but be saying not only does AC reynolds have a good shot in the playoffs but so does Watauga.

Other Pioneers will have to step up but they have already been doing that all year long. What a special season they are having with the chance to run into Asheville undefeated and upset a great program. Good luck to Snow and the boys. Win or loose you have brought a lot of fun to this community and school. Keep it rollin!!!!!!!!

Courage is FEAR, that said it's PRAYERS.
I might be wrong, but a team that depends on the run I think will struggle against ACR. The Rockets just last week against Freedom gave up their FIRST rushing TD of the year, and that came after we fumbled inside our own 5 yardline. Again I might be wrong, but the Rocket defense has allowed just 291 rushing yards on 237 attempts in 8 games, and are very strong against the run. I know Watauga depends on the run, and I just wonder what does Watauga do if their running game is stopped?

I think Reynolds will stop the run and win this game by 2 TD's. WHS has a good team but has not went up against a defense like the Rocket's will show on friday night. WHS runs alot of the same plays over and over. They will have to mix it up more on friday night. The QB will have to have a huge night if WHS wants this game to stay close. I like the no huddle offense and the kicking game for the Pioneers is good. Should be a great crowd at this game. The Pioneers fans brought a good crowd to MHS. Look forward to seeing the game.

    Watauga for the Win

You are right when you say that the team has a great family spirit about them. There is no doubt that this group of young men have respect for each other and their coaches. They have worked so hard, and no matter what happens on Friday night with AC Reynolds, they have made our community proud. But we believe in them, and most of all they believe in themselves. They have the right attitude and are not scared of the fight--they have heart. We will have a huge crowd to support these guys!;) Go Pioneers, bring home the win!!

I agree with Smash you really find out about a football team when they play tough real competion. The Cougars or the Pioneers have both played soft schedules. Yet they have both done what they needed to do.WIN. I thought Alex. Central ran ball OK between the tackles against AC Reynolds. Reynolds was just so much faster than the cougars. I would imagine the real game of the year will be for 2nd place.
