You too CoachEvans,,,, I agree with your last comment,,,, that everyone's situation is different. Folks need to lighten up,,, if someone wants to spend $$$ to play showcase, wish them well,,,,,,, if someone else wants to play legion ball because they have a good situation in their home town, wish them well. Whats so hard about that? Does it matter who's right or wrong, I mean really is anyone going to go back and change their mind because of something said on here? Whats best in Caldwell County may not be the best thing to do in Raleigh,,, or vice versa. If I'm smart enough to understand that, I know some of you guys can.

I hope for yalls sake I ain't the smartest one on here.......:newsmile42:

Btw,,,, since this is HOT topic,,, let me add here that theys a Kannapolis freshman up there giving 'em hell in chapel hill at 2nd base. Boy can hit.

TJ...glad you're back man. It's hard to keep Braves out of trouble when you're gone.

Ryan, is doing fine...he just got back today from Instructs in Fla. He's a little tired but had a great time.

How do you think PGCrosschecker found the players that didn't showcase?
I doubt if they went to any Legion games or HS games so how could they find them since they did not go to their showcase? I wouldn't think the rankings by PG Crosschecker is a good reference since they are part of the largest showcase of all. Do you think they saw all the Legion or HS players play? Of course not, they can only rate the players that showcase.

Just my two cents...does it really matter how one reaches his goals as long as he reaches them through hard work, dedication and sacrifice? People have been and will always be afraid of change. While some wish to re-invent the wheel, baseball has always been a game of three outs, that will never change. Enjoy this time spent with your son whether it be through Legion or Showcase ball, there are lessons to be learned in both!

Folks listen, I ain't bashing showcase,,,,, but for someone to say legion isn't this or that,,,, I just don't think thats true either. We all know that while yes its more convenient for college recruiters to attend one showcase this weekend and watch 100's of kids play ball,,,, but we all know full well that when recruiters go watch 100 kids, he's really only got his eye on 1 or 2, and that recruiter would drive anywhere to watch those 1-2 kids he thought he could get. Last thing, which I think is very important and nobody hardly ever brings up, but this is true. I've had numerous college coaches tell me openly that they actually PREFER legion players for one simple reason. I know that may be a shock for some of you, so brace yourself, but its true, so I've been told more than once. And the reasoning is this, think about it, with legion ball the college coaches can watch these players play a 30-40 game schedule over 2 months which is very similar to a college season, and you can see how a player responds to slumps, wear and tear on the body, fatigue, etc.

If you will notice, I haven't said anything negative about showcases, I've only made a few points about legion. Both have their advantages.

how many innings does a showcase pitcher get to throw in a weekend ?
How many for a Legion pitcher..
Same goes for position players and the at bats...

i have nothing against showcase teams either..

Someone earlier made a point about all of the impact kids were signed to division I scholarships. Can you honestly tell me that they wouldn't be if they had not played for the dirtbags? Word travels. Recruiters will go all over to see everyone. Although yes it does make it easier to see a lot of kids at one time it doesn't matter to the recruiter. They will see them.

I've seen probably as many showcase teams play in the last few years as anyone on the board. With the exception of the Dirtbags, and probably the Carolina Cubs, I feel like the talent has been dramatically watered down. I have been in legion baseball and showcase baseball. I don't really agree with all of you guys that say the competition is better. I don't feel like the same competitiveness is there. So, really it just means that it pits good player against good player.

My point is (as which lefties is too I think) don't be fooled by the notion that your son is playing against great competition week in and week out just because he is playing "showcase" ball. I feel like this years recruiting class is very solid, but the showcase teams are extremely weak. (Please don't take that out of context, there are some good ones out there) I saw last years legion state tourney and coached it all summer. There were some really really good TEAMS out there. They played the game right, and practiced, trained to become better. All I'm saying is be careful and know before you commit a lot of money and time to something

Look, I didn't post my resume to impress everyone...I simply wanted to separate myself as someone who has been around for a while compared to the average parent who has not been through this process before. I also mentioned that I have several college recruting coordinators on speed dial. Again, this is not to blow my own horn, but to illustrate the close contact I have with those who are recruiting YOUR sons. My conversations with these guys are all the same when it comes to this topic. Recruiting budgets!...it doesn't make sense to go to three legion games where you will see 2 teams with very few players to choose from. You can spend the same amount of money on hotel, food, etc. at a showcase event and see triple the amount of teams and talent. Now, with all that being said, I do believe that there are some small towns that still produce quality legion programs. Sumter, SC is a perfect example of that taking place. I also agree that some of the showcase events have become diluted. When little Johnny doesn't make the high profile showcase team, little Johnny's father puts together a team wit below average players. The other problem is some tournament hosts are concerned with putting a good tournament together. They will accept anyone who is willing to put up the entry fee. There have been some people in the showcase community that have suggested a showcase league. May not be a bad idea??? Anyway, that's my rant for the evening
