    Good Idea

Good ideas. The use of conference records trumping overall records is a big part of the problem. That, plus the hideous coinflips, straw draws, etc just is not :agreed: fair. Newton Conover and Alexander Central got the hose job and the only thing they can do about it is get fired up and prove they belong where we know they belong.

NCHSAA is a bunch of #@@&*%!^

This just in, Alexander Central will travel to Nome, Alaska. The game will be played at midnight on Wednesday. The NCHSAA will not say why, do they have to?

if think you've got it bad just check out these road trips from the 2AA East bracket......and these are the ones I saw at a glance. some of the others may be as bad or worse. do a MapQuest on some of these road trips. not good

ok, i went ahead and did it on my own after lunch

    #15 Pasquotank @ #2 Salisbury ---- 295 miles @ 5+ hrs.
    #11 S. Brunswick @ #6 Forest Hills ---- 184 miles @ 3hrs. 50 min.
    #14 Warren County @ #3 W. Stanly ---- 205 miles @ 3 hrs. 40 min.

If you do not have 6 wins you should not be allowed in the playoffs. What is the purpose of Berry Academy 3-7 playing someone like Reynolds 11-0. Let Reynolds have a first round bye and play a team with a winning record in the second round. I saw in one of the classifications that there was a team that made the playoffs with 2 wins. Give me a break. It is all about the dollars in high school football.

This is the worst for me...

Cherryville gets a home game vs Swain County and if by some miracle they win, Jordan Matthews has to go to Cherryville. Matthews only lose came to Thomasville and they would have to travel to a hapless football team that got beat by Bessemer City to end the season.

the thing is that there are 64 slots to be filled in each classification. then those are split into A and AA brackets. if there arent enough teams with winning records then you take from what is left. this is how we end up with these 1-9 and 2-8 teams each year. lets look at the "worst of the worst".........

    1A
    Halifax 2-8
    Perquimans 1-9
    Lejeune 3-7
    Northside 2-8
    Creswell 3-6
    W. Columbus 2-8
    Princeton 2-8
    Robbinsville 2-8
    Rosman 3-7
    S. Robeson 3-7

    1AA
    Midway 2-8
    E. Columbus 3-7
    Trask 2-8
    Spring Creek 3-7
    Hendersonville 3-7
    Albemarle 3-7
    S. Stokes 2-8
    Cherryville 3-7

    2AA
    N. Lenoir 3-7

    4A
    Berry Academy 3-7

these teams represent 8% of the 256 teams in the playoffs. i did not list the teams at 4-6 or 5-5 or the numbers would have been much higher.

    lets account for those here...
    1A
    Columbia 5-5
    Mattamuskeet 5-5
    Williamston 4-6
    Lakewood 4-6
    Chatam Co. 4-6
    E. Wilkes 5-5

    1AA
    Northampton 5-5
    Topsail 4-6
    Avery 5-5
    E. Montgomery 4-6
    Swain 4-6

    2A
    First Flight 5-5
    S. Lenoir 5-5
    N. Brunswick 4-6
    Graham 4-6
    Lexington 4-6
    Lincolnton 5-5
    Monroe 4-6
    Mitchell 5-5
    Madison 5-5

    2AA
    McMichael 4-6
    Pasquotank 4-6
    Warren Co. 4-6
    W. Stokes 5-5
    E. Guilford 4-6
    W. Lincoln 4-6
    Chase 5-5
    Hibriten 4-6
    Mt. Pleasant 5-5

    3A
    S. Central 5-5
    S. lee 5-5
    N. Iredell 5-5
    Rockingham Co. 5-5
    Waddell 4-6
    RS Central 5-5

    3AA
    Ragsdale 5-5
    S. Alamance 5-5
    Jacksonville 4-6
    Trinity 5-5
    NW Cabarrus 5-5
    Mooresville 5-5
    St. Stephens 4-6
    Erwin 5-5

    4A
    New Hanover 5-5
    Ashley 4-6
    Smithfiled Selma 4-6
    EE Smith 4-6
    Knightdale 5-5
    JM Robinson 4-6
    Hoke Co. 5-5
    Ashbrook 4-6
    S. Caldwell 5-5
    N. Forsyth 5-5

    4AA
    Middle Creek 4-6
    Myers Park 5-5
    W. Meck 4-6
    Hopewell 5-5
    Weddington 4-6
    Freedom 4-6

thats another 23% of the entire field that is .500 or lower. and dont forget that each team gets to drop a game (usually a loss) to further enhance their standings. All told, about a third of the entire field has no business being in the playoffs. there are a few exceptions to any rule and sometimes a second or third place team may have a .500 record so some of these teams may have gotten in anyway. but the fact is that the NCHSAA keeps their portion of the gate proceeds so we should expect more of the same in the years to come.

That's what we'll get year in year out with 8 state champs. I believe they thought to increase revenue, probably didn't. Why not go to a 5A system and just 32 teams each bracket ??

BTW I thought A-AA setup was large and small, after looking at the brackets and comparing ADM #'s it's all mixed.

This also just in... since Saslisbury is so close to the west border and Pasqoutank was so near the ocean, Pasquotank decided that a plane traveling east may take less time going around the world than a ride on the bus going west.

I like hanger's idea... lets go 5a or 6a like in other states. or take a page from titan and give all conf. champions a first round BYE automaticall. then we can take from the collegiate level. and use media and coaches polls. heck maybe even scrap the ADM idea and go with a district or regional based confrence with all classifications.

    Cherryville - 21
    Swain Cty - 0

Guess that "hapless" team came to play, huh?
